Really shocked that they traded Mejia but I like the deal, Hand has a nice contract for the next 3 years.

I've read a lot of people over the last year hint at Cleveland questioning his ability to stick at catcher.

I've never ever read anything like that, quite the opposite actually.

Read the recent reports, bro. Even his own organization (Cleveland) wasn't impressed with him behind the plate.

Meh... I see it as posturing cause he's such a good athlete. (Not joking) imo

Be easy on him...he can only read at a grade 2 level.

Mejia basically got called out by Francona for not trying to make the OF work. I think they wanted him to gain some positional flexibility and rotate around the diamond so they could get his bat in the lineup this year. But he just wasn't giving a good enough effort to do it so he was bad at 3b and OF.

The Padres will likely just let him catch for 10 years.

Simply because he's real f***ing good.

I don't think Cleveland believes Mejia is a viable catcher in the majors.

Yeah clearly. The Indians have been moving him around for a while now, and since he hasn't been tried at first it means they just don't believe in his abilities behind the plate.

We'll see mate, I take Badler's word over Callis... it's likely fine work.

+ Cimber's under control for like 5 more years and has been better than Hand this year.

Indians (and a lot of others) have been skeptical about Mejia staying behind the dish for at least a year now. It doesn't come as a surprise at all. He's a lot less exciting at 3B or in a corner OF spot

I tried banning Spanky one time and got an error message. I think he's coded into the forum itself.

So should we package a reliever with Happ to get the best value?

If that's what gets you the best return absolutely.

Yeah it’d work out better if that returned one good prospect instead of 2 or 3 lottery tickets. Takes two teams to make a deal though, Shatkins might have to be patient to get the best deal.

Meh, he's a 27 year old rookie reliever without elite strikeout rates in the minors, I don't think his inclusion is at all significant. The Indians must both a) really like Brad Hand and the impact of elite relievers in the playoffs and B) be quite down on Mejia and his future as a catcher at the MLB level

Well, they've been trying him at 3b and LF because thye are actually comfortable with Gomes and Perez at C... for whatever reason. Apparantly Mejia wasn't receptive to changing position and it hasn't been going well.

That, and Miller and Allen are both FA after this year so their pen would take a hit, Hand is under control through 2020, so it gives them extra stability this year and a better outlook for the next 2.

But Mejia fantasy owners... (myself included) are weeping that he's going to that park.

Dan Duquette with some strong statements today...saying the Front Office is way behind the times. Behind in technology, numbers, scouts, staff, and they need to change how they approach the International game. Not sure if that is a shot at himself or ownership but interesting.

Also on MLB radio was Manfred who said some interesting things but the one that I thought was most interesting was when he was asked about so many teams rebuilding in the AL, having potentially 3 or more 100 game winners. He talked about parity being a goal still but mentioned that they baseball has tested poorly to young fans of the NFL and NBA, and one of the things mentioned is that they don't like that the best teams lose so often (he then joked about retesting in Houston). As a sports fan this is insane to me but I wonder if super teams actually help baseball.

I need to spend less time in my car...
