Teams are not willing to deal prospects like the used to. Even for Machado, the Dodgers are holding back, it will be interesting to see if this changes the trade deadline. Happ is 35, if we aren't getting any decent prospects for him, we might as well see if he wants to reup for a similar deal as last time. I wouldn't do the same for Estrada, but Happ being a left hander with a good tight fastball and solid secondary stuff. You would think he still has a good 2-3 years of being an average starter.

Hate to say it, but the truth is, Sanchez is a big if now. Maybe Stroman too.

Can still sign him in the offseason. Better to trade him and get what they can, even with his struggles lately he's one of the best SP on the market.

Seems like an easy sell

Ross - "JA, we'd love to have you back in the offseason. You're a great fit for our team. In the meantime, we're going to trade you to a contender so you can go chase a world series title. We'll be in touch. All the best man"

Szymborski joining FG full-time. This is good.

Why is this good? Zips suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yankees apparently after Machado (not to play SS).

It would look awful to the mouth breathing public, but I wonder if the Jays could package Happ and Donaldson together to the Yankees. Enough for Frazier? Of course JD has to be alive by the deadline.

I would just to try to reason with JD and sign him long term. He is not going to get the big bucks that he was hoping for, 4/90 should be a serious possibility for keeping him in Toronto

Nobody wanted Tulo for $100M, why would they want JD for that?

No way he gets that money. Maybe if he comes back and has a 200wRC+ the last 2 months but even then so much uncertainty with the injuries.

The best outcome for both parties is probably JD accepting a QO. He gets a chance to show he can stay fit and still play at a high level, we don’t have to trade him for peanuts or get a low draft pick as compensation.

Assuming that BTS wasn't being sarcastic, he's probably in favour of it because Szymborski is an upgrade over about 80% of FanGraphs' current writing staff.

And regardless of whether you're a fan of ZIPS (personally, I think there are better projection systems out there despite its popularity - i.e. Steamer), he's a smart baseball mind.

Q-Ball: Early returns on Eric Hosmer are not very good….was that contract a mistake for the Padres?

Meg Rowley: I should say upfront that I don’t get really fussed about bad teams that aren’t really ready to contend spending money, even when it seems like too much for too little production. But like, who cares? It doesn’t stop me from buying snacks because it isn’t my money and it gives fans something to be excited about. But it doesn’t look like a great deal, no.

What is suppose to be area of expertise. Why does she answer everything with metaphors or try to relate the question to her life lol.

Anyone see these renderings of the proposed new Rays stadium?

Looks great but will people show up. Can they really build another massive sports stadium in Florida without a massive fan commitment. I guess if you have a billion dollars to waste its fine.

Pretty much this, he'll decline the QO to get it out of the way and sign a 1 year deal at 22-23 million, imo.

Is that not just going to be a giant greenhouse?

Yeah, this seems like the most likely outcome. Probably a mutual option to save face and make the numbers look bigger.

I'm assuming it will be retractable as well. I mean most days in Tampa are stupid hot but not all of them!

I don't understand why they haven't just moved that franchise to somewhere more viable. It's been a sustained economic failure for a very long time. Building a new arena, even one that's actually in Tampa (rather than St. Petersburg) seems totally insane. The Marlins have the newest stadium in baseball and averaging less than 10,000 fans per home game (!). If you combined the home attendance of the Rays and Marlins this year, it would still be in the bottom 1/3 of the league. Baseball in Florida just isn't viable.

It’s not, but I think the covering shown at the side might slide over it.

I also liked this question about Chapman:

Do you know if MLB had the authority to prevent the incredibly tone-deaf selection of domestic abuser Aroldis Chapman to the ASG? The legal system and the league’s domestic violence policy have finished with him, but there is absolutely no reason he needs to be paraded around for marketing purposes. The union might not like it, but I and countless others prefer our baseball without people who fire guns into the garage while the partner they allegedly choked hides in the bushes.

Eh, Frazier kinda looks a bit gross. If we're dealing both I'd rather aim somewhere else. I wish LA were more of a realistic target, a few guys there. Verdugo for JD and Happ would be nice.

Yeah I’d be fine with anything that brings more value. Two months of Jd and Happ would certainly help a team looking to win a WS. The A’s did something similar with Hill and Reddick a couple of years ago. Don’t remember what they got back but I’m sure more than they would have by trading one.

Montas, Holmes, and Cotton.
