Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Rays manager Kevin Cash said Sunday that the team will open the season with a four-man rotation and stick with that setup into May before adding a fifth starter to the mix, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Cash's revelation means that Honeywell will likely report to Triple-A Durham to begin the campaign. Honeywell has gotta be good and pissed by now...
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Honeywell has gotta be good and pissed by now... Archer, Snell, Faria, Andriese? Then they'll get by on spot starts or depth options in the five slot until they're ready to start Honeywell's clock?

BTS Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Surprised Benoit got a guaranteed 1M major league deal. He looked cooked last year.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 New pace of play stuff and related rules: Pitch clock - deferred until they see how other things work / don't work Video review rooms - new equipment (which will be monitored) was installed to prevent teams from using video review to steal or relay signs Mount visits - 6 per team per 9 innings, additional 1 per inning for extra inning games. Any manager, coach, or player visit counts, but pitching changes, cleaning cleats if rainy, or injury checks do not. Ump can grant additional visits if he believes a cross-up has occurred. Between innings and Pitching changes - 2:05 for local games, 2:25 for national games, 2:55 for postseason games. Pitcher must throw their final warmup pitch no later than 20 seconds before this, and must start throwing first pitch when clock hits 0. Additional Warmup - No limit to warmup pitches or minimum guarantee, but final pitch must occur in time frame above. Umpire can grant time extensions if he believes there is a danger to the player not to do so, or if there's an equipment issue, etc. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-announces-pace-of-play-initiatives/c-266718664

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Ok, I'm a big fan of all of these changes. I think I forgot to mention something about teams now having real time slow motion capability in the video review rooms too.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Red Sox have signed JD Martinez. Hopefully Dumbrowski bid against himself and gave him a s*** ton of years.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Red Sox have signed JD Martinez. Hopefully Dumbrowski bid against himself and gave him a s*** ton of years. 5 for 110 is what I'm seeing.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Red Sox have signed JD Martinez. Hopefully Dumbrowski bid against himself and gave him a s*** ton of years. 5/110 for Martinez. Has an opt out clause after year 2.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 5 for 110 is what I'm seeing. With an opt out after 2 years. Not bad at all. Hopefully the Yankees and Red Sox take away some wins from each other. Otherwise I don't see us doing too well.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 5 for 110 is what I'm seeing. I think I would have been fine with us giving him that, especially with it being front loaded while he's still likely to be really good. I wonder what they'll do with Hanley Ramirez?
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Deal seems fair for both sides, though it would be more fair without the opt-out IMO
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Guaranteed that's the same offer Martinez has been sitting on for 3 months now
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 That's a good deal, lol. Nowhere near what they wanted.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 DBacks get Jarrod Dyson on a 2-year deal.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 DBacks get Jarrod Dyson on a 2-year deal. Which is bad news for the Orioles, who were eyeing Dyson.. but they're too busy trying to add mediocre pitchers to fill a weak rotation.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 This JD Martinez deal should've been done 3 months ago, not right at training camp.. With the deal, Sox payroll now stands at $230M on a CBT basis IIRC.. Sox are going to pay a fair amount of tax, but they don't have a choice, as they face serious problems in 2 years, when Sale, Bogaerts, Porcello hit free agency, plus this offseason, HanRam, Pomeranz and Kimbrel also hit free agency and it's not certain Boston will keep raising payroll after this season, considering the luxury tax..
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 DBacks get Jarrod Dyson on a 2-year deal. Damn, 2 years and 7.5M total. Looks like some low value incentives too but nothing major. That's a steal.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 How many will Martinez hit with the monster?
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 How many will Martinez hit with the monster? The bigger question--will he stay healthy a full season? He's only had one healthy season (2015).
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Damn what a steal of a contract for the Red Sox. I was hoping they would have to reluctantly overpay him. At least they went balls deep into the luxury tax with this move.

Yes, because their window closes after 2019, as they stand to lose most of their rotation as Sale, Pomeranz and Porcello will be gone unless Boston wants to overpay and pay ridiculous luxury taxes by then. In addition, they'll also lose Bogaerts to free agency along with HanRam, Nunez.. and Betts will be making Mike Trout money, leaving Boston with little flexibility.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Mauricio Cabrera and his triple-digit fastball DFA'ed for Moylan.. someone's gonna take a flier on him. Should the Jays take a shot if he's available?
