saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 At this point I'd have no plm moving JD to the Yanks to fill their 3B hole, and take back Ellsbury and his contract and whatever prospects that gets you. If you're willing to take on 68 mil over 3 years on a player not worth anywhere close to that, and trade a stud player to your hated rival, the least could do is put the effort out to state what prospects you would want in return.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Where would Alcantara fall in our top prospects rankings? Probably a little better than a TJ Zeuch or Nate Pearson.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Wait a second. This is your plan? -Trade JD to a division and WC rival (okay not ideal but shouldn't be a dealbreaker) -Take back a s*** contract (uhh...) -Take "whatever" prospects this gets us ... By the time the Jays are good again, JD is 35-36 and the Ellsbury contract has expired. Meanwhile, Gleyber or whoever is just hitting his prime with the Jays as a cost controlled player.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 I don’t understand how this happens, even if they wanted a quick deal. His salary isn’t prohibitive, so there should have been at least half a dozen teams in on him. The market should have developed on it’s own - there’s no way Sierra, Alcantara and trash was the top offer. I guess the easiest explanation is that the FO has no idea what it’s doing. 8 teams were in on him including the Jays according to MLBTR. I don't get it?!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 (edited) Where would Alcantara fall in our top prospects rankings? Actually, I'd say more in the 8-10 range. Edited December 14, 2017 by Spanky99
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Would be nice to see Toronto in on this, please! There's no way he's going to want to stay.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Yea he would be really a perfect fit here. For four years of Yelich you offer to take on a bad contract plus add Alford, Zeuch, plus. Perhaps you take on both Prado and Chen to facilitate a move that doesn't require to give up Vlad or Bo.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Probably a little better than a TJ Zeuch or Nate Pearson. Really? I'll admit I don't know much about him, but he put up pedestrian FIP, xFIP, BB/K in AA last year. I mean he averaged 98 MPH with the heater in the majors last year, but he seems more Conner Greene than Nate Pearson to me.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Marlins wanted Vladdy AND Bo for Ozuna according to Phillips.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Marlins wanted Vladdy AND Bo for Ozuna according to Phillips. Lol so I guess we're not getting Yelich then.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Lol so I guess we're not getting Yelich then. Sure doesn't seem like it. Although the Marlins come off as morons here.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Marlins wanted Vladdy AND Bo for Ozuna according to Phillips. The f***? That makes no sense. They settled for far far less than that.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 Bo and Alford for Yelich

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 So I guess Ozuna would have cost us Vlad.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 So I guess Ozuna would have cost us Vlad. Got to be bogus. The Marlins wanted a Top 5 prospect and a Top 30 (should be Top 20) prospect probably plus more for Ozuna....and then went with what they got. LMAO...
Mavcarter Verified Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 So I guess Ozuna would have cost us Vlad. So they were demanding our two best prospects but didn't even get one top 5 prospect from the cardinals system? Sounds like horse s*** to me

Sounds like horse s*** to me Seems like a piece they put out to make the fans think they are trying but also glad they didn't do the stupid thing and trade 2 Top 25 prospects when it wasn't needed even by the team that traded for the player
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 Perhaps the Marlins are just stupid or really valued those prospects higher. Not even just the Blue Jays but you would think a whole bunch of other teams would give up more to land him. Its not as simple as well this player is rated as X on BA's top 100 Prospects so he should be worth more.

If they are high on him and Alcantara then they're likely pretty happy. It's arguably better than what they got for Stanton - though I wouldn't be surprised to see them flip Starlin Castro for more prospects.

We have better pitching spects than that return, I for one don't believe that horseshit from Phillips, Vlad and Bichette, lol. They were raked over the coals.

Phillips is obviously talking nonsense, but our offer could have been built around pitchers that the Marlins didn't rate as highly as the prospects that they got from the Cardinals.

Them asking for Vlad just has to mean they like Sierra and Alcantara more than Toronto’s non-Vlad prospects. They clearly like those two pieces, and Alcantara especially, more than the industry. They had tunnel vision for pitching, apparently (not sure why) - is it really a stretch to say they weren’t enamoured with Pearson, Zeuch, and SRF? Asking for Vlad AND Bichette, in the same deal, is where things get silly, if indeed they did that. Edited December 14, 2017 by BTS
