Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 They only get the money if he doesn't opt out though? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I do hope the Yankees contacted Marcus Stroman prior to making this trade. #communication. On a serious note, that’s the AL East sown up for next 5 years then especially when the Yankees get Harper next year. Harper won't be a Yankee

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Heyman tweeted Stanton's already on his way or in NY to have his physical. He's obviously waived his NTC...
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I'm getting more comfortable with the idea of trading Donaldson and gearing up for 2020 when Vlad and Bo are ready.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Silver lining? No kidding, him and Judge have no PF, they hit moonshots, lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 For sure Stanton will adjust to that stadium, maybe shorten up on some 2 strike counts and hit at least a couple hilarious pop-up homeruns. My thoughts exactly lol. I expect at least a few f***ery homeruns coming off his bat against us. I also wonder if this means the Red Sox will try to respond by signing JD Martinez to his stupid price tag.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 A couple clips of Jorge Guzman: http://thumbs.gfycat.com/GlaringHarshArkshell-size_restricted.gif http://thumbs.gfycat.com/WhimsicalDisgustingLemur-size_restricted.gif Guy dials it up to 102, and he couples that with great mechanics and command. Yeah, he's pretty good or whatever.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) Never heard of him Yer dumn. Seriously though, I watched a segment on him last year prior to a Yankees game, kid's electric, with command. Big upside/ceiling. I have a 50 FV on Guzman, which means he’ll garner heavy consideration for this offseason’s top 100, and a pretty aggressive 40 on Devers based largely on his frame, athleticism, and natural feel to hit. Where does that rank on our yet-to-be-released Marlins list? Well, 2016 first-rounder Braxton Garrett — low-to-mid 90s, above-average curveball, above-average changeup, chance for plus command — would be soundly ahead of Guzman if he hadn’t required Tommy John in June. Brian Anderson and the newly acquired Nick Neidert are both relatively polished prospects who I think can be average big-league regulars, but neither of them can touch what Guzman’s ceiling looks like if he develops a good third pitch. - Eric Longenhagen Edited December 9, 2017 by Spanky99

CrackerJack Verified Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 well at least the Jays had a short 2-3 year window before the Yankees became a powerhouse again. lol
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Harper isn’t shaving his beard and cutting his hair for the Yankees. Guy is in love with himself. He will get the money he wants in tons of places. The Yankees will most likely target Machado. 100% agree. Harper can play wherever he wants, why would he go to the Yankees where he has to change his look? Doesn’t make sense.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I was pretty surprised he didn't make the BP top 20 Yankee prospects. I find BP is always looking to make a statement with their lists, rather than just compiling them in a straightforward manner. They always have to be the first guys on or off someone, and it's constantly making them look dumb as f*** in my eyes. If they're right, it looks great on them. And if they're wrong, nothing really happens. Guzman is #7 on BA's list, I think? Edit: yup.

And if they're wrong, nothing really happens. Guzman is #7 on BA's list, I think? Edit: yup. Yarrrr. Track Record: The Astros signed Guzman out of the Dominican Republic on the strength of his lightning-quick arm and projection for a massive fastball. He spent his first two seasons in complex leagues before moving to the Rookie-level Appalachian League. He was traded with Albert Abreu to the Yankees that December for Brian McCann and lowered his walk rate in his Yankees debut. Scouting Report: Just as the Astros expected, Guzman developed a big-time fastball, but he exceeded even their expectations. He averaged 99 mph with his four-seamer in 2017 and just a tick less with his two-seamer. To put that in perspective, Guzman threw harder than Luis Severino (97.6 mph), the hardest throwing starter in the majors in 2017. He paired his fastball with a developing slider which was inconsistent but flashed average potential as well as a seldom-used changeup. He sometimes had trouble keeping his slider in the zone early in games before finding his feel later. The Future: After leading the short-season New York-Penn League in strikeouts in 2017, Guzman will take his raw but tantalizing package to low Class A Charleston in 2018. He has a ceiling as a mid-rotation starter. Read more at https://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2018-new-york-yankees-top-10-prospects/#Ly4S2uI1KtsFQUwx.99
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I think his ceiling is higher than a mid-rotation arm.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Will Stanton & Judge top Maris & The Mick's mark for most home runs by teammates in a season? (115 in '61)
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Will Stanton & Judge top Maris & The Mick's mark for most home runs by teammates in a season? (115 in '61) Highly unlikely. I'd bet anyone quid on that, no way. I'd also bet they'd K more than that combo also... Edit: I'd give 2-1 odds on a 50 dollar bet on the former.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Will Stanton & Judge top Maris & The Mick's mark for most home runs by teammates in a season? (115 in '61) God, I hope not.

My question about potentially challenging the record for home runs by teammates was for any future season together in NY, not strictly for the 2018 season only ... is that what your bet is about too?

Yeah man, I'll chill on a bet for a decade? I'll roll with you year to year?
