Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 It took until page 4 until someone actually mentioned Koehler as anything more than a side note. I can't remember a player hated as much as Goins by a fan base. Maybe Hinske? Dickey and Thole.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Reading twitter responses to Stroman's little hissy fit and good god do we have stupid fans. So, these fans complain when the team is losing, and yet they think a guy that is a reason for the team losing is a good player? So they hate the FO for the team not doing well and then they hate the FO for trying to rectify that. Lol ok. Stick to the leaves, f***ing morons.

I would have assumed Goins would be hated by people who just look at the TV stats.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Stroman watching this video on repeat with tears in his eyes. I was sad to see Goins go until I saw this awful video. Now I'm glad his wigger or half-wigger ass is being shipped the hell out. Stroman is stupid as f***. Shut the hell up and pitch and don't use Twitter to air your grievances. Did he seriously not know that Goins was at least a candidate to not be tendered? This is really a shock to him that needed pre-announcement? Stroman's tweet is turning me into jimcanuck. f*** it, punt 2018. Trade him and Donaldson and start fresh. If the Jays traded Stroman I would be....not sad. That's not how a fan should be reacting to the shipping out of the team's best pitcher.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Wait, the casuals are actually upset at this? I would have assumed Goins would be hated by people who just look at the TV stats. Are you f***ing stupid? Goins led this team in RBI for 9/10ths of this season on 400 AB. Awesome TV stats and Pat Tabler influence and clutch.

I don't know how it's possible for Stroman to be as obnoxious as he is, even when he's just pitching he manages it.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 With Goins gone, we only have one drafted player left on our current starting lineup.
baconpancakes Verified Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Wait, the casuals are actually upset at this? I would have assumed Goins would be hated by people who just look at the TV stats. Did people actually hate him?? I liked him for what he was, a backup, nothing more, nothing less. The only reason he got thrust into full time is we have a few players made of glass. He wasn't an annoying idiot who made bad plays or got thrown out trying to steal bases, he just wasnt good with the bat. Sure i cringed when he came up to bat with anything hopeful going on out on the bases, but he was a solid backup infielder. I cheered like hell when he pitched that inning on Canada Day a few years back, and would welcome him back as a backup infielder, as long as we get someone solid in front of him. Where ever he ends up, still a nice guy, just can't hit.....at all.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Casuals, at least the idiots on Twitter and Sportsnet, hate Shatkins, so they will mourn the loss of anything that was here before those two took over. Stupidity is a dangerous thing, and unfortunately casual Toronto sports fans fit that description. Oh well, as long as those mouth breathers take their asses to the games, I guess that's all that matters.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Stroman to the 'Stro's for Tucker and Whitley or the Cubs for Happ and Almora Jr
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Here's a scenario that we should all at least be mentally prepared for... the casuals might turn out to be right about this. If 2017 Diaz (- 0.7 WAR) is the real Diaz (there's a statistical argument that supports this) then all Jays will get out of this is cost savings. Diaz is already behind Goins on defensive value which puts pressure on a bat that didn't show up at all in his most recent season.

Diaz is just a far better asset in every way: - Diaz will cost the minimum, while Goins was projected to cost about $1.8M - Diaz has an option year remaining, Goins didn't - Diaz will be entering his age-27 season, Goins his age-30 season - Diaz actually projects to be useful, Goins doesn't I mean, Diaz might actually suck, but right now he's clearly the better asset. Most importantly, WHY ARE YOU USING RWAR ON THESE FORUMS? YOU SHOULD BE BANNED FOR THIS.

He's Brett Lawrie to me now Brett Lawrie was far more tolerable to me. Maybe because he is white and I am secretly racist and give white people far more leeway than whatever the hell type of darkie Stroman is. Or maybe because I can identify with Lawrie's type of douchebaggery, like making fun of fat people, bullying, and "accidentally" assaulting umps while I cannot identify with Stroman's.

And obviously in any trade scenario I'd like to see a fair return. Holy f*** the things you have disclose on here as part of your message. bzapple Verified Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Was Goings fired for inappropriate workplace behaviour? Yes, I found his hitting quite inappropriate for a major leaguer. Shameful, really.

I would liken it to the SJW stuff nowadays. They tend to examine every little thing through the microscope trying to find something to be offended about. That reminds me of Stroman, looking at everything around him as somehow being directed against him. Lawrie is just the typical high school jock type that everyone remembers (or perhaps was). Often fun to be around, an open book, but just not politically correct. At all. The second is a lot easier to tolerate and be around imo, because they don't try to push everyone away.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I might be Blue Devil blinded but I don't understand the Stroman hate. I get it from my buddies outside of this forum a lot saying that Stroman should just shut up. But he doesn't appear to be a distraction to the team (in fact, he's more like a fan that can only see things from a Jays point of view), and is just exuberant and says what he is thinking. When given time to think about it he usually says the right things. Him and Archer are the same person and I don't feel like Archer draws the same hatred (might be protected by the lack of Rays coverage/fans)
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I find Stroman annoying but as thin skinned and childish as he can seem, he has ice in his vein when he's pitching. Feeling agrieved or slighted in some way seems to be a primary motivation. Ultimately, it's not a big deal. If social media didn't exist, Stroman would probably be universaly adored.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Buerhle was great because he also kept Stroman in line when he was here which a lot of people seem to forget. As soon as he left and Price left Stroman has gone over the top since there really isn't a Veteren in the rotation to keep in check. I used to love watching him pitch and still do but the act has gotten really tiresome. Still, at the end of the day if he pitches like he did last year I'll take whatever comes along with it.

(I'm asking since I don't really follow Archer too much)

(I'm asking since I don't really follow Archer too much) I'm not a Twitter guy so I can't answer your question, but Archer is pretty demonstrative on the mound and definitely isn't one to hide his opinions, so I think there is where Hurl is making the comparison. I don't get the hate either personally, Stroman seems like a nice enough guy, even if his antics sometimes are irrational and childish. He's a fiery guy and plays his whole life out with a chip on his shoulder, part of that is what makes him such an excellent athlete and pitcher. He has nothing but love for the team and the city, and he's really good and not expensive, I think that's all that should matter.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Poor Geddy Lee. Maybe he'll start skipping out on Stroman starts. I would hope Geddy Lee has a high enough opinion of himself and Rush to not care that a couple of athletes half his age (with clearly terrible taste in music) don't know who he is/don't like his music.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 He has to be talking about Goins finding out via Twitter and not himself. Could he really be that deluded? Who cares! Between the lines is all I care about. Imagine Stieb or George Bell on twitter, lol.
