Slider Verified Member Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Anyone else sick of hearing Jays players saying all season that 'they are still in it?' I know they get paid to say that kind of thing but as a regular Joe, I knew they weren't going to make it to the playoffs this year since their horrible start to the season. If I could figure that out, the Jays surely knew as well since then they weren't going to make it to the playoffs this year.

They were just 3 games out 2 weeks ago and months into the season projections had them above 50% chance to make the post season. Just because you have a s***** negative attitude doesn't mean the players or anyone else has to.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Just watch the game and stop listening to what the players have to say. They rarely say anything relevant or interesting. Christ, the announcers rarely say anything relevant, accurate or interesting.

You really believed they could have made it 2 weeks ago with 3 games out? Did you not notice how many teams they would of had to pass to make it to the wild card? You are the naive one my friend.
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Darwin Barney put it the best when they asked him about it a week ago after they got swept at Wrigley. He said something like: "all year we've been in a position where we have to win 5 or 6 in a row and we will be right back in it. Now we are in a position where we need to win 8 or 9 in a row. But we are still going to go out every day and try to do that" The players aren't stupid. It's not hard to look up the standings. But it's not over til its over and crazier comebacks have happened. It's easy for fans to just give up and do something else but you can't blame the players for clinging on to whatever hope may remain so that they don't feel like they are working their asses off for nothing.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 They were 50-51 2 years ago and then went on an insane run. Technically they were/are in it. Realistically they're not. You want your players having a positive outlook. It's us fans that are the doom and gloomers.

Deep down we all kind of had a feeling that the 6-17 start would doom us and it has. They've basically been a solid WC team since that atrocious start but not good enough to overcome that start. But the players can't think like that they have to keep playing like they are in it.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Way too deep. I'm not sure it can fit.

Yeah they are 2 games over .500 since starting the year 6-17. The 2nd WC will probably require about 82-85 wins. The Jays could have been there had it not been for that horrible start. Oh well.
