Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 It didn't bounce. Close enough. He swung at an awful pitch and got lucky.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 What's your take on Pillar's current approach? Horrible..
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Yes, take notes from the 72 wRC+ hitter with a walk rate that makes Pillar look like Bautista while also striking out 26% of the time. lol... also Kendrys' hit a double going the other way.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Horrible.. I expected a more detailed explanation from you.
BlueJays Verified Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Pillar approach is f***ing annoying

Stats aside the Jays players are easily one of the most selfish bunch of players on a single team I have ever seen, everyone wants to crush the ball and be the hero. Watch good teams and no one cares about who gets the job done, as long as the line keeps moving. Not with the Jays, it's homerun or bust with this team for the past decade it seems.
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I expected a more detailed explanation from you. He did leave some .. for some added suspense.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Hey CWS Sanchez... Escobar did something similar LOL
StubbinHub Verified Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 They have terrible attitudes and fundamentals, which is largely because they've had bad hitting coaches and laissez faire managing.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 How about we get 3 innings in the books before we start telling each other how s*** the Jays are?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Yes, take notes from the 72 wRC+ hitter with a walk rate that makes Pillar look like Bautista while also striking out 26% of the time. Having a better approach doesn't mean he is a better hitter overall

This is an absurd thing to say. Have you ever actually watched an Astros, Dogers or Cubs game? Guys like Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Corey Seager, Yasiel Puig, Cody Bellinger, Carlos Correa, George Springer, etc. are not coming to the plate to slap singles the other way. Also, lol @ "stats aside". That's exactly how you try to get away with making egregious statements.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 I expected a more detailed explanation from you. It looks like he's not letting the ball travel as much as he was earlier this year.

Just look at the Jays ALCS the past two years, they got manhandled two times in a row by basically the same type of team, homeruns or nothing does not give you championships. Timely hitting and shutdown bullpens fly flags not selfish sit back on my back leg and swing for the moon type of players.

Carlos Correa isn't, that wasn't the point I was making. Both come with the idea of murdering baseballs into the bleachers, if they get pitches around the zone, regardless of who's on base.
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Good job Jose. Way to swing for the moon.

And now pitchers have learned to never throw Bautista inside and his power goes way down and avg shits on itself. Can't keep up that approach anymore especially with his age creeping up there. Have to take outside pitches away plain and simple

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Keep coming up 5 feet shy on these long fly balls off Shields Fack!
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Yeah, maybe if Jose Bautista had a better approach he could become a good MLB hitter and have a decent career.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Jays have actually hit shields pretty decently. Just not too much luck so far.

You can't teach him to go against the approach that made him a great hitter, you just have to hope he hasn't declined enough and will still have stretches where he resembles the Bautista of old. Pitchers probably aren't really doing anything too differently than when the league figured out how not to pitch him, Bautista is just older and his skills have eroded.

You are correct...imo though Bautista could still be a good hitter if he changed his approach and went the other way a lot more forcing pitchers to come in at a higher rate than they do now. He has to evolve or his decline will continue at a torrid pace
StubbinHub Verified Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 He's old and not aging well......get over it. He'll never hit .250 again and will stick around to hit 20 hrs and bat .200 - .220 for a couple of more seasons to collect a pay cheque.
