How did this happen, didn't he play the whole game last night? All these injuries are incredible.

So he collects service time and major league paychecks the whole time he's on the DL. He was probably going to go down after tonight's game right?

So which one of you took a s*** on the baseball gods front yard?

Sorry guys, my bad. I decided to move to Toronto and start following baseball this year, as I enjoyed being there so much last October.

That was me, and it was a big one.

Cool cool cool cool cool

Well that should derail the rest of his season and significantly hamper his power development. Good stuff.

Also burns a huge amount of his service time.

If we can't even give prospects playing time without them getting injured then what's the point of this season?

Probably a lot more than what they had in mind when they called him up.

Couldn't they have waited a couple days and sent him back to the minors before putting him on the DL, get rid of one of our 9 pen arms instead and then called up Dwight Jr.? Or is there rules around that?

Yeah they would have run afoul of the union had they demoted him just to avoid the MLB DL. It's good that those rules exist because one can easily imagine how teams would exploit a loophole like that but in this case it screws the Jays because they probably didn't intend to keep Alford up much longer.

He was probably gone after tonight's game with both Donaldson and Tulo coming back. This sucks. Good for Alford's pocketbook in the short term though.

If not tonight then surely whenever Pearce came back.

He was hurt while on the 25-man. Union would have had a field day with them trying to get around paying his MLB salary while he recovers.

So basically a minor leaguer can come up for one start. Blow out their arm. Miss 18 months and collect service time the whole time. Yea that isn't flawed at all.

They have 9 RP right now and you can argue that Alford would have been a better keep than Coghlan. There was an outside chance he was up for good.

Yeah true. He could have lasted longer. By the time Pearce gets back one or two others could be on the DL too.

It's a rule that favors the players. That doesn't really make it flawed. The alternative would be giving teams the ability to demote someone with options, like say Albert Pujols, to the minors just to keep him off the MLB DL.

Either way we no longer he a RHH outfielder again so we are forced to watch Zeke everyday for god knows how long.

Hopefully today is the last time he ever hits second again.

Or they can have a compromise. While the player doesn't lose any salary but don't accumulate service time. It's really just a s***** situation. I would like to know how it happened.
