Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 I'm guessing Carrera and Coghlan will be gone When... I don't believe they'll DFA Carrera anytime soon?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 When... I don't believe they'll DFA Carrera anytime soon? He's so tough to watch but he's providing positive value.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 He's so tough to watch but he's providing positive value. Plus, they like The Zeke!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 I already regret this thread title. What have you done?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Why waste an option? Call up some bum outfielder like Fields I assume since they made the decision to promote him that they made the commitment to play him everyday. Calling him up for a couple of days would be incredibly stupid. I hope our front office isn't that dumb.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Maybe they can just trade Zeke when we get healthier. Gotta be a few teams looking for a 4th Outfielder .
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 When... I don't believe they'll DFA Carrera anytime soon? They won't get rid of him until Pearce comes back and then 1 of them will go for sure, depending on if Alford or Smith is staying/hitting well. I assume it's kind of like a mini Reyes situation. The beyond minor league defense is making the move imo

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 He's so tough to watch but he's providing positive value. Yeah I agree. He shows some hints of talent but his lack of fundamental mental awareness really holds him back from being as good as he could be. Throwing to the wrong base all the time, fielding blunders, not a good base stealer despite being pretty fast, etc. Add it all up and he's probably fine as a 25th man but watching him play can be frustrating.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 I think Alford has to light it up to stay past Pearce's return...but there is a good chance the injured get re-injured anyway. With our luck this season, Alford will just end up getting injured himself before we have to worry about any of that.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Why waste an option? Call up some bum outfielder like Fields Alford was already on optional assignment...
Gary Verified Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 What exactly does this thread title mean...that one of Alford or Smith Jr. are gay?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Alford was already on optional assignment... I don't believe so, Harold Ramirez, yes.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2017 Author Posted May 19, 2017 I don't believe so, Harold Ramirez, yes. I think Grant is right. They had to add him to the 40 to protect him from the rule 5. On 40 + not on 25 + at least 20 days in minors = option year used.
43211234 Verified Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Hopefully they put him in cf over Zeke. I'm interested in how the defence looks.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 See Shawn Green See completely different front offices.

Or is it just for the first year he is added to the 40 man roster?
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 See completely different front offices. Yeah, I get that. I'm hopeful for Alford to get consistent ABs, as in the past it's been quite frustrating.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 This is exciting. When was the last time we got to see a legit prospect called up midseason?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Yeah, I get that. I'm hopeful for Alford to get consistent ABs, as in the past it's been quite frustrating. Calling up a top prospect from Double-A to play him sparingly would be cringy.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2017 Author Posted May 19, 2017 I did not know this, interesting. Does this apply to subsequent seasons? Or is it just for the first year he is added to the 40 man roster? Any year a guy is on the 40 man roster but not on the 25 man roster for 20 days, he is considered to be on optional assignment and burns an option year

Calling him up for a couple of days would be incredibly stupid. I hope our front office isn't that dumb. How is this stupid? Alford is the last capable CF on the 40 man roster, and they need a fill in. Despite what has been written in this thread, calling him up for a few days (even if he doesn't get much playing time) is not going to stunt his development.

I see, I vaguely remember this rule, I thought that didn't come into play until next season, roster-resource has me fooled as It has both Smith Jr and Alford with 3 options left.

It's because they do have 3 option years left. This year and two more after!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 It's because they do have 3 option years left. This year and two more after! Now that makes sense, so Ramirez has this season plus next year.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 What are the chances of going with a Pompey-Pillar-Alford outfield in 2018 (assuming Pompey isn't dead)? Or will they trade the gay hating bastard and go with Alford in CF?
