BTS Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 He's saying that Dominicans don't work and are lazy...and the white Trumbo's are hard workers. lol, no he's not
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 There's a different standard for broadcasters like Zaun and current players but it's still f'n funny
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 This is the end of the game: http://m.mlb.com/tor/video/v1316325783/torlaa-stroman-induces-a-dp-to-win-the-game/?affiliateId=clubMEGAMENU Not sure if something happens after. I hope Zaun has never seen the celebration at a no-hitter before. Which nowadays happens almost as much as a complete game.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 You forgot c) racist as f*** http://deadspin.com/dan-duquette-orioles-fans-hate-jose-bautista-prefer-1793519917 I can't speak for Trumbo and his propensity to stand around for 3-4 hours of an 8 hour work day whistling at women that walk by if he wasn't already a MLB player, but when I read that the first thing that popped into my mind is that Bautista was always seen as a bit of a diva even before he was good and that he had a higher than middle class upbringing in the DR. Not racism towards a light-skinned Latino who is fluent in English.

What else is interesting is that I have visited EE's home city of La Romana. Went to a baseball game there a couple years ago.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I thought his rant was stupid but I liked the suit.

Truthbombs Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 He's saying that Dominicans don't work and are lazy...and the white Trumbo's are hard workers. So why did they wait until the last minute to sign Trumbo and lowball him? Duquette is full of s***.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Author Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) I can't speak for Trumbo and his propensity to stand around for 3-4 hours of an 8 hour work day whistling at women that walk by if he wasn't already a MLB player, but when I read that the first thing that popped into my mind is that Bautista was always seen as a bit of a diva even before he was good and that he had a higher than middle class upbringing in the DR. Not racism towards a light-skinned Latino who is fluent in English. Trumbo was raised in Villa Park, CA where the median household income was $116,000 at the time. He got a full ride scholarship to USC. Bautista grew up in the DR and went to a junior college. He had to work his ass off to go from being a journeyman to the player that he is today. He is well known around baseball for his extreme work ethic. Knowing that, read this quote again: Our guys are good. [Mark] Trumbo is like a working-class-type baseball player. If he was going to work every day on a construction site, you would understand that he brings that kind of work ethic every day. That’s the kind of player that our fans identify with. We try to get gritty players that work hard every day and give their best effort every day. Our fans seem to like that and respond to it. Mark Trumbo is a big ass 'murican boy so that automatically makes him a gritty, "working class player" (what the f*** does that even mean?) that fans identify with, who would be right at home on a construction site. That automatically implies that Bautista isn't a working class player, isn't "gritty" and doesn't have a good work ethic. Anyone who thinks there are zero racial connotations in that, whether intentional or sub-consciously, is dense. Edited April 24, 2017 by TwistedLogic
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 But he is saying that Bautista doesn't work and is lazy. He literally uses that as an argument for why Baltimore fans can't identify with Bautista. Because they instead identify with working class construction workers who grew up in rich California neighborhoods, like Mark Trumbo. Whether Duquette is actually dumb enough to have calculated that entire statement, or whether it was one big, terrible Freudian slip, there absolutely is a racial undertone to his rationale. If he knew anything about either player, he wouldn't have made what looks like a bad generalization based on their appearances. You are putting too many words in his mouth.
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 "What you said looks like a bad generalization based on appearances." That's an opinion. It's not putting words in anybody's mouth. The words already in his mouth already make it look bad enough on their own. "Because they instead identify with working class construction workers who grew up in rich California neighborhoods, like Mark Trumbo." He did not say this.

He says that the fans don't like Jose, and then shifts to praising the qualities he likes in the player he just gave $33M, and presumably likes on a personal level. This is manufactured outrage.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 This is manufactured outrage. One might even call it twisted logic.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 All of this fake outrage and looking too deep into something that's not there is definitely something a reddit poster would do.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 While we're on the fake outrage topic - what you guys think of the stroller-gate? Who the F tries to bring a full sized stroller on an airplane?

Meh, this place is too much of a shithole for people here to constantly ridicule reddit. I post on both sites because neither is tangibly better than the other. Both have certain things going for them and both have plenty of flaws. Someone here high-horsing about reddit is like the troglodytes on OriolesHangout talking s*** about this place. Sports communities are just bad in general.

I expected a lot worse given all the comments on this board.
