GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Wow. That would be nice, but I doubt he'd ok it. Why not? Jose is all about Jose and getting off a last place team for possibly a big market and playoff performance would set himself up nicely for free agency.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Can we do like Estrada for Candelario?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 If we get nothing for Jose I would rather not trade him. The idea of giving him away for nothing should intrigue nobody.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Can we do like Estrada for Candelario? Candelario is underrated. My buddy is great
justafan Verified Member Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Sorry, I have to disagree. He is a farce and has only this season to go. Try out the younger players. Cannot hurt plus use the money elsewhere. If we get nothing for Jose I would rather not trade him. The idea of giving him away for nothing should intrigue nobody.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 What are a couple of B+ or A- prospects worth? I'd eat 100% of JB's salary to help add to our farm depths with players who have an outside chance to be an add in the future.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 We would probably have to eat his entire contract and that still doesn't guarantee a half way decent prospect. So what. Keep him and pay him, or trade him for a prospect and pay him. It is clear which option is better.

If you are getting a filler in return you may as well just keep one of the greatest players in Franchise History for the rest of the season.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 If you are getting a filler in return you may as well just keep one of the greatest players in Franchise History for the rest of the season. plenty of throwers in the low minors with the potential to be a good reliever at least i dont care about the sentimental s***
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Not interested in moving Jose if it's for org filler. I would really like to see Morales gone even if we have to pay the rest of his contract for this season.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 why the f*** does anyone want to keep Jose?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 why the f*** does anyone want to keep Jose? Exactly. It makes no sense to hang on to him, even if all that's offered in return is org filler. At least there's a chance that the org filler could surprise and develop into a star prospect - it's not like it absolutely never happens. Bautista is as good as gone in ten weeks, so the Jays might as well get something for him.

Ray Verified Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Half a season of JD Martinez who's been a significantly better hitter than Jose this season netted the Tigers pretty much nothing. Can't see us getting better than that, even if we eat significant cash. That said, I would still trade Jose. Better than letting him walk for nothing at the end of the season, and you never know who pans out when it comes to prospects. This front office has done a pretty good job with minor league scouting so far. I trust they can find a diamond in the rough somewhere.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 plenty of throwers in the low minors with the potential to be a good reliever at least i dont care about the sentimental s*** You're likely getting a guy like Sean Ratcliffe back. I don't know if there are any records that he is close to breaking but you'll probably sell a few more tickets and get more eyeballs on TV with him on the team still even if the team has no chance. That's worth more than the crap you are getting back.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 why the f*** does anyone want to keep Jose? You don't trade one of the greatest players in franchise history for a fringe future relief pitcher.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I wonder if you could get anything for Zeke. He has a 111 wRC+ and 0.7 WAR so maybe some team would take him as a 4th OF. I'd be happy to not have to watch him play in the OF.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Thing is Jose won't waive his right, unless it fits.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 < got a 1st rounder for Jose in BORED
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 You don't trade one of the greatest players in franchise history for a fringe future relief pitcher. One could argue giving him a chance to play on a contending team is a respectful way to let a legend move on. That would be an easier PR sell than when they decline his mutual option this off-season.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 < got a 1st rounder for Jose in BORED You're f***ed, lol.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 why the f*** does anyone want to keep Jose? Because letting him go for nothing is embarrassing PR? Ideally he announces his retirement this off-season or maybe shortly before that so the team gives him a nice sendoff. If that's all we have to look forward to come September.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 One could argue giving him a chance to play on a contending team is a respectful way to let a legend move on. That would be an easier PR sell than when they decline his mutual option this off-season. Yeah, Bautista picking up his option while the Jays decline it because no one in their right mind would pay him $17mm would hurt his ego more than a trade. At least a trade you can spin it as "thanks for all the great years with us but we're not winning a ring this year so go get one" type of thing. Bautista announcing he will retire at the end of the season is really the only way I'd want to keep him but that's not going to happen. Even giving 2nd half AB's to a never-will-be like Dwight Smith Jr would at least have a tiny bit of upside if he turns out better than expected. But trotting Jose out there as a shell of what he used to be isn't going to get anyone to buy a ticket to watch a bad team.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 DSJ has a chance man. Don't downplay him so much.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 DSJ has a chance man. Don't downplay him so much. He's a weak hitting groundball hitter who isn't good in LF. I don't think he's even a 4th Ofer.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Bautista sucks. If the team can save the $5M or whatever is left on his deal that alone would be enough for me to pull the trigger.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Would love to see the Blue Jays get Keon Broxton from the Brewers.
