Its not disingenuous at all. His power is real; but Pro pitching isn't going to s*** their pants and pitch around him every at bat, so the over-inflated walk rate won't continue. How am I denigrating him? By not anointing him as the #1 overall pick LOL? The history of bat-only players going that high is virtually nonexistent, and I simply don't believe Beer to be a generational hitter or anything of that sort.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but I don't think you know what denigrate means. Saying "he won't be in contention for even the 2-3 pick" and the only real thing in that post is his batting average, I'd call that some pretty unfair criticism.

I'm not putting "huge stock" into anything.

I like how we're anointing a guy #1 overall over a year before his draft date (#TankForBeer!) despite the fact that history has proven time and time again that these early-career superstars almost never maintain #1 status by the time they are actually draft eligible, and players of Beer's mold (all bat, spotty at best defensive outlook) have very little history of actually going #1 overall.

He reminds me of Schwarz for Florida...amazing Freshman year then faded some his sophomore year (not as much as faded as more not as amazing)

Its called a prediction. You act like not being a #2-3 pick is some sort of death-wish...as if being picked #4 overall means that you're trash. I said much more than bringing up his batting average (which was a throw-away comment); most notably that he's got little positional value and that that profile tends to be scrutinized heavily. If you want to go deeper, he's also a very average athlete.

How about Anthony Rendon? Future HOF'er since his Freshman year, "lock to go #1", until he slips to #6 by his draft day. The vaunted offense of Rendon never fully materialized (he's been a very good hitter at times, although has shown inconsistency). Rendon is at least helped by the fact that he produces plus defensive value at 3B, which is something that Beer can't even hang onto. Rendon posted a .407 ISO in his Sophomore season.

I think you probably read something completely different to what I actually wrote.

He has a 8:22 k:bb, an ISO around .330 and a 1.070 OPS. That is without taking into account the ridiculousness of judging a guy on less than 20 games in the first place. It's not his fault if no one wants to pitch to him.

He's actually 36 games in. Has a 20:40 k:bb ratio in about 160 PAs. thebaseballcube only updates college stats in batches once a month. Tough to judge college stats too much as there are ranges in parks by as much as 40 feet in the corners and you are sometimes playing programs which offer zero baseball scholarships, and some guys pad stats on weekday games against 4th starters of a weak program (not true of Beer at all, his HR's have been as follows Wright St (2), South Carolina (2), Michigan St., College of Charleston, Furman, Boston College, Virginia Tech and Florida St (2)).

As I said I think he's the early best bet for best fantasy player in the draft and I would take him number 1 but it's not a lock thus far. My 2017 favourite bat (Jake Burger...who I will battle with Min for) has a Sophomore teammate Jeremy Eireman putting up some similar numbers to Jake. He'll be an interesting one to watch.

I hope the Jays can draft Jake this year and Seth next year. I just really want a professional jersey with "Burger" and "Beer" on the back.

Is anyone named Fries in the pipeline?

Beer down to 17th ranked in BA's college draft eligible players. That would put him out of the first round if held up.

My newest Bae Griffin Conine is climbing fast. Jays have a good recent history with drafting a Dukie in round 1...and second generation players. Seems like a natural fit.

Damn, Tristan Pompey is in top 10? Thoughts on him? Also, wasn't your new bae Jeremy Eierman? Or was it a different teammate of Burger that you liked?

i like collegiate men...

Yes I thought Eierman looked as good as Burger. But Conine was supposedly unreal in the Cape Cod league. Eierman only got 15 PA's in the Summer (Team USA commitments then a Hammy injury). Tristan has improved every year. He was pretty blah in the summer but his season with Kentucky was fantastic. I remember when he was 14 I thought he was barely noticeable out there. Still seems to have swing and miss issues though.
