Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 If you were getting surgery and you had the choice of the best doctor to perform the surgery wouldn't you go to him? I know I would. Of course others can perform the surgery. He has an entire clinic of orthopedic surgeons, they all work on patients. I'm sure when it comes down to it, they'd rather he performs it. He's getting pretty long in the tooth and sure is to retire soon, but his clinic is world renowned for athletes.

I'm actually hoping he doesn't need it. I like Davd Price. I hate the Red Sox but I'm not wishing an injury on him. Contract is still incredibly dumb. However the Red Sox have a ton of those.

intrigid Verified Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Yeah, that's a fake news headline. "Tommy John Surgery Not Needed" was added by the author. All that was said in real life was that they're optimistic. People with confirmed stage 4 cancer are optimistic. It's completely meaningless. Literally the only meaningful conclusion to draw from the article is that TJS is not yet 100% confirmed.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 No surgery, will likely be ready around Opening Day based on the rest he's getting:
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 So the end will be slow and painful, I suppose.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 So the end will be slow and painful, I suppose. Maybe Price follows a path similar to Tanaka?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Maybe Price follows a path similar to Tanaka? Tanaka has a Platelet Rich Plasma Injection and two months of rest near the end of a season after a partially torn UCL - David Price's issue appears to be much less serious. It's likely inflammation/swelling but no tear of the UCL; no structural damage. Of course the way the elbow is constructed isn't all about the ligament. No UCL damage does not mean the player is out of the woods. Lots of players have inflammation, or a forearm strain, and that is a precursor to near elbow death.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Maybe Price follows a path similar to Tanaka? Two very different pitchers. Tanaka has better secondaries. Price losing velocity on his fastball will make him very hittable IMO. Will be interesting to see what kind of FB velo Price is getting.
