Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Damn if we don't win this one we are out of the next WBC. Unless we upset with the Americans which is impossible with this pitching staff.

Just need to beat some teams like Germany and Madagascar in the Pan-who-gives-a-f*** games 2018.

Canada qualifying for the Olympics in Basketball was suppose to be a cake walk and they were upset by Mexico.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 Right, of course. It would be a gut punch to not have Canada in the next one. They are probably a top 8 country by talent if even just Paxton and Taillon participated. Certainly if they had Taillon and Paxton they vault most or all of Italy, Israel, Colombia, Chinese Taipei, China, Korea, Australia. And Votto, Lawrie, Martin, Saunders would put them in step with all the second tier teams... arguably everyone but DR and USA. Should have ridden Kellogg for multiple innings.

Just wonder what the problem is with pitchers that just don't want to play. I get its not an oblibagation, but come on.

I don't blame any young pitcher, pitcher trying to get an MLB job, or pitcher with injury questions from sitting the WBC out. I guess Paxton and Taillon both get my forgiveness. I think Votto might have decided not to play so Freeman could. The announcers this game said when Votto was initially in the fold team Canada asked Atlanta if Freeman could play third base... lol.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Eric Gange first baseball game in 8 years coming in with the bases loaded lol

I really hope that's not the reason Votto dropped out because he could have easily played in place of Morneau...

Maybe next WBC there's Paxton, Taillon, Cal Quantrill, and Mike Soroka.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Madagascar lol. I guess so but nothing is guaranteed. It would be better if they were just in. Canada qualifying for the Olympics in Basketball was suppose to be a cake walk and they were upset by Mexico. Canada qualifying for basketball was a cakewalk in the media and fans eyes. Never in Basketball Canada's eyes. As for the WBC, it's not like Canada becomes a favourite if all their top talent makes the trip. As there is no funding (for winning) tied to the WBC, Baseball Canada is probably better off going with a youth movement so that some of these minor leaguers might help them with qualifying/Winning tournaments for tournaments where there is funding tied to it (PanAm, Olympics, Commonwealth Games if they decide to put it back in). Forget about the Gagne's of the world. Get the Cal Quantril's, Zach Pop's, Andy Yerzy's working with Baseball Canada that is way more important from a non fans view.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 Yeah that's fair. Maybe next WBC there's Paxton, Taillon, Cal Quantrill, and Mike Soroka. Yeah Canada's long term outlook isn't awful. There is a 2017 draft SS prospect Adam Hall who could go early in the draft. 2016 - Quantrill, 2015 - Naylor, Soroka, Kellogg Other young guys who could develop include Rob Zastryzny, Yerzy, Panas (Blue Jays), Shane Dawson... I dunno. Orimoloye, Gareth Morgan? Rowan Wick looks really good in relief. Daniel Pinero I think is a strong defensive SS. We could see a WBC teams some day with both Pompey bros on it. Pompey and Tyler O'Neill (and the arms) are crucial pieces long term.

Canada seldom seems to recruit like those other countries do as well. Freeman and Taillon made it clear they would like to represent Canada before they were asked. There has to be a shitload of MLB players that would qualify for Canada with these loose qualification rules.

If Vlad Jr. isn't on the next WBC roster I blame you.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Well hopefully they can get Freeman long term... Tallion said he would be loyal to Canada. Obviously with his injury issues coming off his first big league season he wasn't going to pitch this time.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 We are starting Dempster tomorrow lmfao. Can we please not play that game. Have mercy on us. We are like f***ing Belarus in a hockey tournament.

USA will be married to Goldy/Hosmer/Rizzo for a few tournaments so we might see Freeman again.

I'll work on it but they haven't hired anyone in 4 years. Tennis Canada has 170 Full-time employees, Golf Canada around 100, Hockey Canada 200+, Curling Canada 50...Baseball Canada 7 (including the head coach). They have good partnerships with the Jays (and MLB), UnderArmour, Dairy Queen, Rogers, RBC. I don't get why they aren't bigger.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Well Canada has officially s*** the bed.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Holly f*** Canada. Es una pena hermanos
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Good job Pompey show that bag who is the boss. If he is out for any extended time, pretty much call it a career. Made of Glass.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 I just realized Jordan Romano is pitching for Team Italy. We can't even keep our own arms despite being pitching starved. SMFH.
