TBJ12 Verified Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I'd rather a red jersey than that giant maple leaf on the spring training caps.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I honestly thought it was gonna be baby blues. That woulda been cool

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Leave it to Rogers to want to mess with the jersey again. ignoring the fact that fans mostly now wear blue to games, or that the blue alternates are the overwhelming favorites to wear, or that Blue should be the main colour since they're the Blue Jays. And enough of this "this is Canada's team" crap. I don't give a s*** if some ******* in Regina likes to watch. George is getting upset! I thought this stuff was over with Beeston gone. Personally, I'd get rid of the maple leaf on the blue jay altogether kinda like Dunedin and Bluefield. It's so f***ing cringy, this "Canada's team" s***.

I do like the maple leaf on the blue jay i think the red makes it pop a bit i just don't like getting overly too patriotic about Canadas team.

But the maple leaf on the logo was there from day one when the Jays became the second Canadian-based MLB team. Of course the decision to include it in the revival of the original logo may have been influenced by this being the only remaining Canadian team. Also when you 'cringe' at the idea of this being Canada's team, it seems like a dismissal of all the fans outside of Southern Ontario. As for the red jerseys, I agree keep them for special occasions only (Canada Day and Victoria Day).
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Author Posted January 19, 2017 I don't really give a s*** about what they wear. The one reason I'm against this is that a lot more plebs will be buying the s***** red jerseys and wearing them to the game, and the wide shots of the crowd won't be "all blue". Red just makes people look like away fans.
Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 The red jerseys are lame like the Raps green jerseys are lame. I mean, sure they look alright, but they are Boston's colours. Why do we want to look like the enemy? I could never wear a red Jays hat. Maybe next year we could do some sweet grey pinstripe jerseys :/

Hey, did you know Toronto is in Canada?! Well it is!! Boston's fans span pretty much the entire Northeast-Atlantic region. New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, etc. There's no need for a special shoutout for those fans.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 How is it cringey? Because the civilized world knows that Toronto is in Canada. The constant reminders are unnecessary.

Yes playing up the issue of this team being for all of Canada needs to be in moderation, which is why the red jerseys for every Sunday home game is a TERRIBLE idea (undoubtedly a step too far). But there is also the financial benefits that come with all those millions of extra potential fans, so it's good business on the ownership's part. Comparing the situation to a storied American team with fans across the region is probably an apples and oranges thing. The long history of baseball as America's pastime versus the relatively short history of MLB baseball in Canada is a stark contrast. I know something of the 'regional' thing, living in Indiana with generations of Cubs fans (very happy for a change).
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 If we want to please Canada so much maybe we should wear the red jerseys in Seattle, Detroit, and Minnesota. And actually wear blue and white in the city of Toronto.

They need that constant reminder that "OMG CANADAAAAA" The inferiority complex that Canada in general seems to have is pretty embarrassing. Can't blame the franchise for doing it though, they're playing the rest of Canada for it like a goddamn flute, and it's working.

Can't blame the franchise for doing it though, they're playing the rest of Canada for it like a goddamn flute, and it's working. It's probably more nationalism than anything. The same thing that has people cheering their countrymen on at the Olympics in some obscure sport that would normally get little to no attention from the general public. MLB, like the Olympics, is the big stage. And there is the aspect of beating the Americans at their own game.
wk680 Verified Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 At the same time I think Toronto fans have a separate inferiority complex with Americans. Like they want to distant themselves from the rest of Canada and be included in the American mainstream teams. "Hey I know we're from a foreign country but really we're just like NY or Chicago! Please don't group us with people in Alberta and Manitoba!" Yes far beyond sports, Southern Ontario has always put on this air of superiority to ROC that attempts to mask that underlying inferiority complex regarding how they are perceived by Americans.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) They're the Toronto Blue Jays as are the Toronto Raptors, no need to s*** on Southern Ontario... we know the Country's behind us. Get a f***ing grip. People like wk680/mike m and Grant77 and their comments, doesn't do our team's fans any justice. It's pretty much disgusting. Edited January 20, 2017 by Spanky99

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Canada's team is the reason I watch the Blue Jays. Southern Ontario is one big city, a total s*** hole from top to bottom. That's not a selling point for me or any other Canadians. Awful pizza, too. I don't think a single actual Italian lives here.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Awful pizza, too. I don't think a single actual Italian lives here. His ignorance concerning South Ontario is astounding. Sudbury/Thunder Bay is soooo multi-cultured and a peg higher in life, than SO. f***ing joke I stood up for him in the past, and he swaps where I live in a brush.
