jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Great news! Makes my Monday!
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Nice. Hopefully it comes with an option year.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I'll be ok with this...1 year plus club option
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Happy to hear this. The #'s will be interesting Hoping we can dump Smoak and play Jose mainly at 1B.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Hope there's a team option in there.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 The front office saved themselves from what would have been a PR disaster if they lost both EE and Bautista, especially to Cleveland. Don't care what people say, Jose Bautista is a Blue Jays icon and one of the best hitters in franchise history. Glad he's able to come back and hope he could retire here.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I just saw the official MLB app post this too, this means it's 99% happening! Very happy I hope he retires a Jay!!! http://i.imgur.com/VrE8BWG.gif

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Excellent news! f*** the Joey haters, I love this guy
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 If this is true I hope Jose plays with a bigger chip on his shoulder than he usually does and shows everyone that he's still the player that he thinks he is.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 He might have some quirks, but Joey Bats is the heart of this team.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 as much as I don't like Jose in the OF, that's where we have a need. He'll be out there. If his bat bounces back and he returns to 4 to 6 WAR, I don't care if he's in the OF. 1B would be ideal, but he's miles ahead of all the other available options. Signing Moss too for LF would make it even better.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I think if it happens I am literally going to be in tears
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 They need outfielders. He will probably play RF again and they'll live with the s*** defence and hope his bat comes back around. Adding another player that can platoon with Upton would be great, whether Moss or Valbuena.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Obp of 360+ last year Hope his bat comes around
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I'm all for this, so long as Jose understands that he'll be putting in time at LF and possibly 1B for the purposes of optimizing our defence. Shatkins can't possibly just guarantee him full-time in RF for 2-3 years.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Hopefully its a 2 or 3 year deal. Either way great news!
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 If he is open to sliding to LF and 1B, then I'd welcome a multiyear deal. Guy still has his old man skills at the dish.

Shatkins can't possibly just guarantee him full-time in RF for 2-3 years. I do wonder how much of Jose wanting to be in LF is media driven. He was open to moving as a leadoff hitter, brought it up to Gibby and has played 1B in the past. I am sure even he realizes that he'll be more productive in 1B than LF in the long run. Either way, hopefully it is on a good term. I wanted the pick, but at the end of the day am secretly happy that we get to keep my favorite player!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 One thing I hope for is that he hits leadoff. Not sure why everyone just slides Travis there but Bautista's OBP is a much better fit with Travis hitting lower. Add in a decent LF and the lineup is pretty good. Bautista Donaldson Morales Tulo Moss/Upton Pearce Martin Travis Pillar
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I'm hearing 2 years with a vesting option.
