HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 His stuff was always good, even in his s*** stint with the Pirates LY. It's the command that we all have to keep an eye on.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I said a long time ago "Pearce will play more games than Travis at 2B"
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I said a long time ago "Pearce will play more games than Travis at 2B" I think it's more likely that Steve Pearce will not play any 2B this year

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Do you want to bet? That he doesn't play as many games at 2B as Travis? sure
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I just had a scary thought. With Travis likely starting on the DL, you think Gibby will platoon Goins/Barney at 2B until he gets back rather than wisely start Barney instead? I've had enough of Goins already. Dude never seems to go away.

Dude never seems to go away. Its worse than you think. Its not a Goins/Barney Platoon, its a Goins full time 2B Scenario. By the way Barney is a better defender.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Lourdes looks incredible. The Franchise.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Do you want to bet? I don't think Pearce touches 2B in any situation except a complete emergency. He's not a 2B; Orioles just used him as one back when they had a s***** 2B situation and the Rays are always toying around with positions. I always thought the 2B thing was wishful thinking based on circumstances he was forced into with the O's and Rays.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Real possibility that Liriano is our best starting pitcher this season.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Real possibility that Liriano is our best starting pitcher this season. He's definitely capable. Got to love a rotation with five different guys with a realistic shot at being ~3WAR competing to be the staff ace.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Joe Smith got rocked again, is there any chance of him getting cut or are we just gonna try him out for April/May regardless because of the sunk cost?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 ah yes the Esmil Rogers years Starting 5 coming out of ST was Morrow, Johnson, Beurhle, Romero, Dickey
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Joe Smith got rocked again, is there any chance of him getting cut or are we just gonna try him out for April/May regardless because of the sunk cost? It's Spring Training man, it really doesn't matter.

He will be on the roster. Vet Pitchers get knocked around sometimes in Spring whether its them working on one pitch or something else but i don't see them cutting him.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 good article on how serious Bautista is regarding health and conditioning: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jose-bautista-is-raging-against-the-dying-of-the-light/
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 It's Spring Training man, it really doesn't matter. I get that they're just working on specific pitches but it definitely can't be a good feeling to repeatedly get shelled by minor leaguers, it's a good thing he's mentally tougher than me!
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Starting 5 coming out of ST was Morrow, Johnson, Beurhle, Romero, Dickey Lol I remember saying we had 5 Aces......LMFAO f*** OFF THE PAST.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 2013 was the last time this was the case? Despite the results of that horrid season, I think this was actually KIND OF the case in March of that year. I don't think Romero and Happ fighting for SP55 were being counted on for a whole hell of a lot though. But lots of fans liked the first four of Cy Young Dickey, JJ, Morrow, and Buehrle.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Real possibility that Liriano is our best starting pitcher this season. Kinda hoping Shapkins gives him an under the radar contract extension. Tack on like 2/28 to his 2017 deal, and he'd probably still be surplus value.

Makes sense for him to gamble on a good season and get a final contract that takes him to 37 years old

Shatkins mainly focuses on locking up first baseman who cant hit, and overweight DHs who are largely immobile and lock up the DH spot from being used. That is Shatkins specialty.

You're kidding right? Cecil gave up 6ER few days ago without recording an out against minor leaguers. Should the Cards cut him? Smith hasn't even pitched more than 10 innings.
