Melvin Verified Member Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Anyone else not only not watching, but not usually even looking to see how they did after games?? I only keep up daily with the MILB box scores now, and I'll have a look at the Jays if Stro pitched, it's depressing.
Hipfan Verified Member Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Yep...there's no point in keeping track for the rest of this year, they are done. The only thing I want to see is trades for good prospects. The rebuild needs to happen now. As much as I love Donaldson, they really need to trade him and start prepping for the Vlad/Bichette era. The probably won't get much for Bautista, or Estrata, but they should try to unload them, and maybe even Happ. Forget about trying to compete next year; this team is too old and has too many holes to fill (2 OF spots, the bullpen, 2B) to realistically challenge in the AL East. In two to three seasons they could be pretty good if they make the hard choices now and sell.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Justin Smoak leads all 1B in wRC+ http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=17,d Yes, even better than Joey Votto, although just barely. Also worth almost as much fWAR as Votto.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Sorry if this was already posted - thought it was cool. Gibby's awesome. Jordan Gibbons, the daughter of Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, is a musician. A singer-songwriter who plays the acoustic guitar, she fronts an alternative country band called Southtown. They recently did a show in downtown Toronto, and not only was the proud father there, so was “Country Joe” West. “John knows the umpires pretty well, and Joe West was doing the plate on Saturday afternoon,” explained Blue Jays broadcaster Jerry Howarth. “In the middle of the game, something came up and John ran out on the field. He went straight to Joe West. Joe said, ‘What are you doing out here? It wasn’t that big of a deal.’ John said, ‘I know, Joe. Just between us, I’m out here to tell you that if you want to see my daughter play tonight, I’ve got tickets for you.’ Joe said, ‘I’m going. Thank you very much. Put me on the list.’” According to Howarth, “it was the best visit John had with an umpire all weekend.”
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Anyone else not only not watching, but not usually even looking to see how they did after games?? Occasionally I'll check out what Smoak is doing, and watch Stroman starts, but that's about it, until Alford and others are called up.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 The most frustrating thing is that no one is running away with the division or even playing that well All the teams we'd been chasing in the division are playing around 500 ball or worse since the all star break We could have gained ground so many times this season but just kept failing to do so
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 This is easily the hardest season to watch in a long time. Even during the 22 years of futility there was prospects to watch or something. We got nothing! Worst. Season. Ever. I wonder what tv ratings are?
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 I'd tune in for every game if we call up Alford, trade Bautista and Pillar, somehow got mr glass Pompey to not be injured, and have a 3rd rookie outfielder from pillar or Bautista out there...some entertainment to see which one of the 3 can stick. Maybe even start a, can Alford stick thread!
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Lots of ball fans in here... I don't enjoy watching garbage
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Lots of ball fans in here... Well realistically there is nothing to be excited about tuning in to a Jays game this season. We don't really have a prospect to watch, the entire team is old, underperforming, oft-injured. I mean we have Stroman, Osuna and Smoak's breakout. That's it.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 I don't enjoy watching garbage So the MLB is garbage?

Just seems odd to me, either you like the sport or don't imo, plus there's plenty other games to tune into.

When your team sucks and you don't subscribe to mlb.tv there's other things I could be doing. It's like tuning in to the Leafs pre-rebuild yet still being a hockey fan. The care level drops tenfold until you see change.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 We are not talking about if the Cubs or Dodgers or Indians are worth tuning in for. We're talking about the Jays. Go watch whatever team you like. Jays are barely watchable right now.

Even during the 22 years of futility there was prospects to watch or something. We got nothing! Worst. Season. Ever. I wonder what tv ratings are? I'd say its more because you got used to the last 2 years of the team being a damn treat to watch each and every single day. The mid to late 2000s were pretty bad. This year you still have some star talent although they just aren't playing well.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Toronto/Oakland this week might break records for lowest ratings since pre Bautista lol.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 So the MLB is garbage? The Blue Jays are. And that's the only team I care about. If I'm not emotionally invested then I'd rather being doing something else that I care about.

wk680 Verified Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Toronto/Oakland this week might break records for lowest ratings since pre Bautista lol. Not necessarily. People may figure the A's are a bad team that the Jays can actually beat so be more likely to tune in than to see them overmatched against Boston or Cleveland
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 (edited) Maybe its just me but when the Blue Jays suck I watch less Baseball in general. I still follow but I watch significantly less. It's hard to watch when your team is embarrassing. This team litterally is only exciting to watch when Marcus Stroman pitches or we have a late lead in the 9th. We are old and terrible. Our worst fear imagined. I just didn't think it would crumble to s*** all at the same time. Edited July 24, 2017 by Jonn
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 I haven't watched a full game since April. I have other hobbies or past times that aren't depressing. I've been watching a lot of Pirates games though.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Milwaukee has a nice farm system, hopefully they are interested in multiple pieces.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Milwaukee has a nice farm system, hopefully they are interested in multiple pieces. Happ and Smith would be good fits for the brewers.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I just can't see us dealing Happ our rotation is so trash as is and without Happ all we have is Stroman, goes against what Atkins said yesterday about wanting to remain competitive and "relevant". That being said they have a number of very interesting arms I want.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I'd only trade Happ if we're getting back a SP prospect who is likely to contribute at the MLB level by next year Otherwise it's too big of a step back We already have to replace Estrada and Liriano by free agency

We just won't get much of anything for him.

Even if Happ doesn't decline next season, he's only a mid rotation arm IMO. Short of blowing it all up we're not blessed with a surplus of tradeable assets.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I guess the other question is what can you get for 13M per season out of the SP free agents this off season and can you expect to nab one My suspicion is you can't get someone as decent as Happ for rhat price
