Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Meanwhile the Cubs will be paying Brandon Morrow 2/21, and he's probably way better than Wade Davis is at this point.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 ZIPS just threw down a Roberto Clemente comp on Avi Garcia. And Delino DeShields on Yoan Moncada, lol.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I know Wade Davis is awesome, but the Rockies are paying him 17.3M per year AND forfeit their 2nd round pick in the draft. This does not seem wise. 2nd/4th and 1 million against the IFA budget.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 2nd/4th and 1 million against the IFA budget. I'm pretty sure they lose their third highest selection in the draft and no dollars against the IFA budget. Colorado wasn't a luxury tax team last year. I could be wrong about this.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Duda could beast in Colorado for a couple years. You can say the same about every player who hits deep fly balls in Colorado lol.

Off memory I wasn't sure if they were a competitive balance A or B team so I said 3rd highest pick. The point was they don't lose 2 picks and money against the IFA market.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 The guy is a No. 1 or 2 starter if healthy, let alone a high leverage reliever. is it still too late to vote?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 re: potential Machado trade....."The Cubs purportedly offered a package of Addison Russell, Albert Almora and Mike Montgomery but were rebuffed." That seems like a pretty good offer for an expiring contract.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Wat? Jimbo you've had one too many this Christmas season. Nah. A stretched out Morrow is a no. 1 or 2 starter on many teams. He'd be back on the DL by mid season or earlier though.

That seems like a pretty good offer for an expiring contract. It wouldn't matter. As soon as they made the trade, their doctors would find some phantom injury somewhere and cancel it anyway.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Very surprising that Epstein would give up all that. If he is, Jays need to be shopping JD to the cubbies asap. Yeah because they're really scuffling for a 3B right now.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Yeah because they're really scuffling for a 3B right now. Ah, Machado at SS, duh.....
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Ah, Machado at SS, duh..... didn't realize JD could play SS.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 didn't realize JD could play SS. probably could, and not too badly

Part of being a front end starter is durability and the ability to go deep into games. Brandon Morrow is not a top of the rotation arm.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Morrow at his best probably performed at about a #3 starter level, ignoring durability. It's nice to see him now transfer that ability to the closer's role, but let's not try to suggest he's a top of the rotation guy even if healthy.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 He was Jays top of rotation guy for a few years. That doesn't mean anything, other than we needed more pitching really badly. The Marlins top starter next year is probably Straily. That doesn't mean you'd consider him a #1 starter.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 He was Jays top of rotation guy for a few years. To be fair to Jim, in 2010, Morrow was on pace for 5 WAR/200 innings, 3.6 WAR/200 in 2011 and 3.9 WAR/200 innings in 2012. That's basically the same as Stroman in 2014, 2016, 2017. I think those are #1/#2 numbers. That said - I think it's a stretch to think Morrow would still be a top of the rotation guy in 2018.

I'd take Happ + Almora for JD. Cubbies could play Bryant in the OF and JD at 3rd. Then deal Pillar to the Giants when they fail to land Billy Hamilton.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 One interesting wild card in the Nationals’ attempts to keep Bryce Harper beyond 2018 could be his older brother Bryan Harper, MASNSports.com’s Byron Kerr writes. The elder Harper, who just turned 28, is a left-handed reliever who posted strong numbers in 2015-16 for Washington’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, with good splits against left-handed batters. The southpaw is preparing to return to the mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October 2016, and there’s at least a chance he could join his younger brother on the Nats roster this season.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 People inflating their thanks count scoring easy points off of Jim's stupidity ITT right now. JD for Morrow, Atkins make it happen now pls.
