Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 So Romine is playing all positions tonight. So far he's missing only 1st, C, and P.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Romine just got out the batter he faced in a 3-2 game. He's gonna pick up a hold! Now in at C, and just missing 1B.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Welp, as a reward for clinching the AL East today, the Red Sox get to play the Astros in the ALDS. Sweet f*** 'em
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 MLB.TV is apparently free this final weekend (er ... tomorrow).

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Not entirely true. If the Yanks win out and the Sox lose out the remaining three games, they'd have to do a one-gamer to decide the division! Not likely, but would be hilarious. Shame the Yanks would have to do it against the Jays though since I still want to see the O's faceplant themselves into the cellar by the end of Sunday.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 John Coppolella resigns as GM of the Braves. Did shady business internationally according to Ken R timeline.

Interesting, I wonder if this has anything to do with the Maitan signing. It was well-known that he was locked in with the Braves long before he was eligible to sign.

Its well known almost all of the international signings commit well before July 2. Teams have basically already signed the guys for next year.

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Phils will apparently be shopping Cesar Hernandez. He’d be a good fit here with Travis’s health issues. Still 3 years of team control.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Phils will apparently be shopping Cesar Hernandez. He’d be a good fit here with Travis’s health issues. Still 3 years of team control. He'd be a pretty good option as a leadoff hitter, back to back .370 OBP seasons. Still though, I wouldn't be inclined to give up a top prospect for him. I could easily see him slipping to like a 90 wRC+, and with a bit of variance in defence, he could be more like a 1-2 WAR player than the 3-4 WAR player he's been the last two seasons. I'd put Alford and Pearson in the off-limits pile, with Bo and Vlad obviously well outside the realm of possibility.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 If he was declared a free agent, would he still be subject to the bonus pools again, or be an actual free agent?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 If he was declared a free agent, would he still be subject to the bonus pools again, or be an actual free agent? He's young, so probably still subject to pools.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 He's young, so probably still subject to pools. Still a pretty good deal for him. He'll either get a big payday, or he'll get a second signing bonus.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Can he re-sign with the Braves? Lol that would be hilarious
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Lol that would be hilarious Not like it's out of the question. Possible he doesn't want to change organizations after spending the past 2 years with them.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I'd be all up in Maitan. He's only 17...mods!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Too bad he apparently sucks anyway.

King Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Verbal agreement with a 14 year old IFA is one of the huge accusations against the Braves. Literally every team does this. If you don't you're behind the curve.

If you don't you're behind the curve. Yes but how did you get the agreement? That's the issue. Did you build a relationship with the player and convince them you are the right org for them? Or did you bribe some buscone and make an arrangement where the player had no say? I've often wondered how these known agreements come to be. For those of you who haven't seen it, I highly recommend the documentary Pelotero, which follows the signing period of Miguel Sano and other prospects who did not pan out. It's interesting the ways in which the MLB teams conspired to screw over Sano and drop his price tag, first by spreading rumours about his age and then by strong-arm tactics (specifically the Pirates). There is all kinds of shady crap going on in Latin American baseball, it's really the Wild West.

Just viewed the trailer. 2 interesting tidbits: - By 2009, Huntington was already the GM of the Pirates. Wonder how much he's involved and if so, how much of it was learned from Shatkins - Bobby V is the executive producer so now I don't know if there's an angle to this
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Vladdy was linked to the Jays long before he signed
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Vladdy was linked to the Jays long before he signed Most guys are linked to someone, and have agreements in place. I'm not sure to what degree that's allowed, but that doesn't seem to be considered a problem. Paying their agents, or paying them under the table, etc IS. Given that the GM resigned near the conclusion of the investigation, I think it's pretty likely they did something blatantly illegal.
