Gary Verified Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Do EE and Jose both fire their agents?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 No I'm not. They jumped and offered Morales a contract right away. Still turning their back on him IMO. Even Shi Davidi wrote "Given how much common ground there was [between Encarnacion and the Jays], it’s an awful, awful way to part with a franchise icon." The fact of the matter is EE was offered 4/80... I know I didn't want to go higher(and I love EE) for a DH/part time 1B, and in saying that the door still wasn't closed. His agent made the mistake of forecasting his market as 5/125. It's not on the Jays, they offered him the best contract to date. Wake up!

This is of course subject to change depending on what happens with him, but it sounds like they could have got him for 4/80 if they were more patient. Wake up!

I guess it was Rays-esque... Amirite?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Never said that about the EE situation specifically. No s***, I was being facetious as you s*** all over the Pearce signing, and called it exactly that.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 No s***, I was being facetious as you s*** all over the Pearce signing, and called it exactly that. Those are two completely different things, though. But you tried, it's fine. Let's talk about baseball for once.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Or they offered EE the absolute max offer they were going to...he said no so they moved to plan B. I think that if Shapiro were able to be honest, he would admit that they misread the market. They obviously didn't expect the 1B/DH market to be so slow or they wouldn't have been so quick to overpay for Morales.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Gross I own a Lawrie jersey that hasn't seen outside in like 2 years. That was an embarrassing purchase. Meh, he's Canadian, he played his ass off when he was here and ended up being a piece in a trade that brought us an MVP - I don't hold any ill will towards Lawrie at all and don't see any shame in rocking his jersey.

A jersey is a jersey... wear it, who geefs a faaaaaaaaaawwk! Just don't wear your own name... that's absurd.

If it was some real scumbag I'd ditch it but otherwise yeah I agree. I think my next jersey will be a Jays legend though, can't really go wrong there, Bautista included.

I've already given away a Towers jersey, I won them at a closest to the hole, lol. jaysblue loves Towers, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 I think Hurl wants it, lol. I just said this cause...

I'm dumb, for a minute I thought you had "This Ship is Sinking" printed on a jersey haha. A Shea Hillenbrand jersey will definitely earn Hurl some dirty looks at the RC.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Haha you actually have a jersey with that on it? No, his jersey though. lol
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Uhmmm..... who's fault? Shapiro and Atkins, clearly.
brianf Verified Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 That's absurd. Grant? If what the media reports is somewhat accurate, then yes, they did misread the 1b/DH market. Not sure why the comment would be taken as absurd.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Or they offered EE the absolute max offer they were going to...he said no so they moved to plan B. That seems correct. But it also was a poor move on their part, for not being more patient.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Shapiro and Atkins, clearly. Totally right. It's unbelievable how many people are ignoring this point.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Totally right. It's unbelievable how many people are ignoring this point. Really? Can you name a single poster who thinks the Morales signing was a great or even good move? Pretty much everyone is ambivalent towards it at best and agreed that Shapiro and Atkins misread the market. They did the same thing last year, worth adding. Doubt anyone would argue that jumping on Happ and Estrada early was a great idea. Win some, lose some.

I wasn't talking about the small set of regular posters on this website but the media and other fans I've talked to. Win some, lose some? That's a pretty big mistake for a franchise icon, but if you want to give them a pass for what could end up costing the team, then to each their own. Let's hope Steve Pearce ends up being some genius bargain that 29 teams missed out on!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 I'm kind of glad they misread the market because I want no part of EE at 4/80 while losing the pick. Now go sign Bautista...
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 I'm kind of glad they misread the market because I want no part of EE at 4/80 while losing the pick. Now go sign Bautista... At the beginning of the offseason I wanted EE more than JB, and would have been happy with him accepting the 4/80 offer, but would have preferred neither rather than both at the contracts we thought they'd demand. Now that we have Morales and Pearce, I'd rather have JB than EE at a discounted rate, but again would prefer neither rather than both. Sure a bargain EE would have been an upgrade on Morales, but we couldn't have known the market for EE would never materialise and I'm satisfied with the way the FO handled the situation.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 I'd still like to see one good OF and at least one good (i.e. proven) reliever added. I wouldn't be surprised to see them settle with what they have for the bullpen, plus waivers / small pick ups, which again I'd probably be OK with. For me the key signing now is a good OF, even if that's someone like JB who isn't good in the field but can play there. I'd rather that than an cheap OK player who's better defensively (Revere etc).
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 That seems correct. But it also was a poor move on their part, for not being more patient. jumping early on the market worked last year...appears to have not this year. Not that I think Kendrys at 3 years $33M is a mistake per se. Just not great in appearance.

TholesWeirdEye Verified Member Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 My Bautista jersey is the one with the 2015 postseason logos on the sleeves so hell yeah I'll keep wearing it Its fine to wear any old jays players or jays jerseys in general. Except the black ones Racist much?
