justafan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Could the Jays get rid of Smoak? Can Morales play anywhere else? Are Pearce or Travis even tradeable? Gotta keep Goins and Barney somehow. Comments appreciated. I would really like to see EE stay. Good bye to Joey bats.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 EE at catcher? Russell Martin moves to OF?

They could almost certainly get rid of Smoak (and lots of people on these boards would be very happy to see it). Morales could probably play outfield in a pinch, but realistically not all season. Pearce is not tradeable until midseason (we wouldn't want to anyway). Travis is cheap and puts up big value while in the lineup. No reason to trade him, and it's doubtful we'd get someone with his upside in return if we did. The only way we could likely keep EE at this point would be to trade someone like Estrada and figure out a cheap way to fill the 5th spot in the rotation. It seems pretty clear we're gonna have to fork out some cash for at least one outfield spot, whether it's Bautista or someone else.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I'd say a half-gallon of lube ought to do the trick, unless a guy like Upton is seriously packing.
rydermike Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Sign a solid OF defender. Play 2 man outfield with Pillar + 2 DHs
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 just get rid of smoak and have pearce play left....sign EE
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 EE and Morales platoon. Smoak at first Goins closer Gibbons bat boy
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 If they don't act like a small budget team by letting Steve Pearce affect whether or not they sign him.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 If they don't act like a small budget team by letting Steve Pearce affect whether or not they sign him. signing Smoak when they did was ridiculous. How was his free agent market going to be so hot that you had to extend him when they did. Worse case scenario they would have paid Smoak 5 or 6 mil a season for 2 if he had really turned it on in the last month and a half. He collapsed and the money we wasted on him was more than double what he would have got on the free agent market.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I think he could play LF/1b/DH, not many would agree with me though. I'd like to point out that Morales is a pretty big injury risk...So securing Edwin at this price of 80 mill, would be fantastic.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I doubt the Yankees and Red Sox can resist.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 How could the Jays fit in EE? Amazing what can fit up there with a bit of lube
justafan Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 LOL. Isn't Goins the best pitcher on record for the jays? EE and Morales platoon. Smoak at first Goins closer Gibbons bat boy
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 EE doesn't fit anymore but Jose still does.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Sign EE, or Bautista, and trade for Dyson.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I doubt the Yankees and Red Sox can resist. Resistance is futile
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Sign EE, or Bautista, and trade for Dyson. Ditto but i'd rather trade for Granderson

Getting Smoaky out would help. Obviously having both JB and EE probably not going to happen, but technically possible, although our AAA depth would be paper thin (Goins, Carrera [out of options right?], Pompey, Obenheizer)
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Lmao why would you trade Pearce when you just finished acquiring him? Smh.

A new twist on the shift. Just have Pillar cover LF and CF
rydermike Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 2 RF's interesting. A new twist on the shift. Just have Pillar cover LF and CF Lol didn't notice that, but if you go this route, you need to make up for Bautista's defense somehow lol. Plus it'll give Pillar a shot at the LF GG since he can' seem to beat KK for the CF one

Bautista won't sign for that little 2. Edwin won't sign for that much 3. We would have no money for a backup Catcher 4. We would have no money for the bullpen 5. We would have no money for depth
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Lmao why would you trade Pearce when you just finished acquiring him? Smh. Hahaha... not to mention it isn't allowed.

He would have 2 already.

CrackerJack Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 You can't trade a player you just signed. ... without the player's consent. does Pearce or Morales want to play for Toronto that badly? or would they be content for many teams just to pick up their new contract? (yeah, it wouldn't look good on the Jays to sign a guy and deal him, but it's not impossible.)
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 You can't trade a player you just signed. What are the rules for how long you have to wait until you trade a player?
