GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Boxy is dumn The Jays haven't had a good bench in years, mainly symptomatic of AA's god awful roster construction and continued belief in Ryan Goins. Specifically, we've lacked a quality backup INF - Barney performed admirably (surprisingly good out of the pen, too), but realistically, we could do better. In comes Trevor Plouffe. He was outrighted today by the Twins after an injury plagued 2016 in which he cost them half a win, posting a 91 wRC+ with poor defense. However, he has a history of being pretty decent, and might fit our roster pretty nicely. Why He Is Probably s*** Didn't experience any poor batted ball luck last year (BABIP, HR/FB stayed similar) Walk rate fell 2% Coming off a pretty bad oblique injury Only projected for league average bat Why He Might Not Be Totally s*** Has a history of being a positive/not awful defensive contributor at positions we need 5.0 UZR/150 at 1B -4.6 UZR/150 at 3B [*]+3.5, +2.4 fWAR in preceding seasons [*]Had 7.4% Barrels/Batted Ball Higher than Buster Posey!!! wow great job GD [*]Avg Exit Velo actually slightly higher than his 2015 [*]Quite inexpensive to acquire [*]Little known fact: Frequently goes by the nickname "Hey, I'm not Justin Smoak or Ryan Goins" I expect this to take place within 6 days, 4 hours and 7 minutes
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Not a bad suggestion. He'll cost about ~8M in his final year of arb. If he gets to free agency he could actually get a multi-year deal. In related news, the Twins are really stupid.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) Didn't his previous WAR value come primarily from solid defense at 3rd? He's now just a league average bat without strong platoon splits who we'd stick at 1st base. He'd probably be better than Smoak, but not a great target, especially if he'd cost $8M. He will make for a nice bench bat at 1B/3B for some teams. - On the wrong side of 30 now, coming off a terrible, injury plagued season. - Probably a 1-2 win player (if) healthy, but would cost 8 mil in arbitration. Possibly they just gave him the option of going to free agency and choosing his team than picking up a few C level prospects, like the Cubs did with Hammel. Falvey and Levine have made it clear that they are going to re-shape that team this offseason. And Sano will get more starts at 3B this way. I expect Dozier will be traded too, and maybe Ervin Santana if anyone wants him.

Maico450 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Have to be a good move to claim him and trade Smoak for a box of balls. That way there is only a slight increase in salary, but a big increase in value. he could platoon at LF, 1B, pinch hit and be an injury replacement for JD.

Shift Travis to LF

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Stroman himself probably gets you Dozier never mind Travis +
