Gary Verified Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Per Shi Davidi: Sean Rodriguez emerging as possible fit for #BlueJays
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 It's just Shi's opinion. Not really newsworthy. I don't really see where he fits in here.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Not really a fan of Rodriguez. I'm skeptical of his power surge from last year, among other things.
Mkdaman1818 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Wonder if this is a leak from the FO. Rodriguez sounds like someone this FO would go after

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 26th man Ha, that would make it easier to carry two short-side platoon players.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 He's fine if you assume that more established big name players will be signed as well.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 It's just Shi's opinion. Not really newsworthy. I don't really see where he fits in here. He'd be a very nice fit as a bench bat, if he comes at around Smoak money.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 He will forever be s***-Rod in my opinion
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Big fan of S-Rod dating back all the way to his days in the Angels system and with the Rays. Think he still has some untapped potential.

Smoak's platoon partner + backup at another 3 or 4 positions. Someone said he made significant swing changes last year. If that bat is for real, he's a great fit....hopefully on a short, cheap deal. Plus he'll challenge JD for best hair on the team
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I like the fact he can play pretty much every position. Our lineup is a grinder type lineup and we're gonna need a BN guy to give the regulars a day off here or there to cover when they get dinged up or even fill in for short stints. And being able to play pretty much every position could allow us to utilize our BN better or have another RP instead of wasting it on two spots for a Barney type and an OF type.

S-Rod is an upgrade over Barney, Goins, Carrera etc. Don't see why people think he would be a waste. Far from it.

If that bat is for real, he's a great fit....hopefully on a short, cheap deal. His BB% was up, but also his K% was a career high at 30%. Also had a career year BABIP. I'm skeptical, he's probably still a 90ish wRC+ guy with below average D.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 S-Rod is an upgrade over Barney, Goins, Carrera etc. Don't see why people think he would be a waste. Far from it. My expectations for his bat aren't riding on his 2016 season. I'd think he's closer to his 2000+ PA's pre-2016. But I still find his defense to be very important to a team like we're running out.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Pearce please, this f*** can kick rocks. We can have em both!!! It's Happening Spanky remember my list!

He's had a starting role for the last 2 years and had a career year last year. I dont think he'd be signing anywhere for Darwin Barney money or to be a bench player. For that reason, pass

I dont think he'd be signing anywhere for Darwin Barney money or to be a bench player. For that reason, pass He has been a super utility player in Pittsburgh the past two seasons. Never given a starting role. He can play all over the field. As for his salary, he's not going to demand that much. Probably a 2 year deal worth $8-10 million at most.
Driveof85 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 And the money would be almost a wash too or close if you eliminate all 3 as well !!! I don't know, looks like Bautista Lite. I don't like all this talk of cost-effectiveness. I don't give a s*** about how much Rogers saves-that savings will never be passed on to the fan/consumer. This FO acts like they are Kansas City. The Jays have never made so much money and that increase in revenue has been thanks in no small part to EE and JB. The Jays should start spending some of it.

But I still find his defense to be very important to a team like we're running out. Yeah I don't see him hitting .270 again. Likely his BA sits more around .240-.250 with 15-20 HR pop still. We've seen late bloomers like Bautista and EE find success later into their careers. S-Rod always had a solid profile coming up with intriguing raw power for a guy his size. Like you said, the fact that he could play every position and since this as an aging roster, he could be a vital piece.

Driveof85 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 He deserves 4/90 and they could afford more. Yes it is a business, and when you have a good thing going, you keep it. Team didn't need an overhaul, it needed weak links to be addressed. JB and EE were not weak links. Sign both back, put EE at first, KM at DH and JB in right. Trade Upton and Smoak for a full time LH LF.

Turner, etc. He had the same wRC+ as Machado and Fowler last year...ahead of Arenado, Springer, Turner and Zobrist
