They offered 4 years 80 million and gave him a deadline that is now long passed.

fireballW Verified Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Should have taken it. Won't get much more than that.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 EE should have taken that he will sign for less
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I think Astros & Rangers will bid pretty hard for him. He'll get $80+
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I think Astros & Rangers will bid pretty hard for him. He'll get $80+ In money? And years ? Or both?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Casuals are going to lose their minds when he signs elsewhere - claiming Rogers is so cheap. But if that's true - that's a very fair deal for EE and I'm satisfied with the approach the FO took. BTW - stop making new threads man. Just stop.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 In money? And years ? Or both? A $ usually means money. $80+ guaranteed, years be damned.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 That's a very fair deal. I'm sure they are looking around to see if they could get the 5th year guaranteed.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I want Edwin for 4 / 80 so bad
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 He should've signed, but he won't. I don't think he will get 5 years. And I don't see him getting 100mill / 4 years, which is probably what he wants.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 4/80 was more than fair. Good luck whenever you end up Edwin. Jays tried. No one should be criticized when Edwin moves on, but I suspect Rogers will.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 For a DH only guy more or less 4/80 is very fair. I have a hard time believing someone is going to give him more the 20M a year, but someone might be desperate enough for a big bat that they go 5/100 Can't see Boston doing it i would say Houston or Texas as well.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I think EE's camp likely feels 4/80 is the minimum bid they are even considering right now so the Jays putting a time frame on that is not going to rush him to sign. He's probably going to get that same offer as a starting point from someone regardless so he might as well shoot for the moon and try netting an extra $10MM+ while his name is hot. Sort of sucks but I'm quite happy to see Atkins putting his best offer out to try and land him, similar to Cardinals trying to land Pujols.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he can get 4/80 from someone else so there's not much incentive for him to sign now. It's a credible offer. If that's all it took, he'd have signed but he's clearly going to the highest bidder. He said all the right things but he was just trying to leverage his popularity to drive up the Jays bid.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Teams rarely look smart down the road after signing 34 year old stars to free agent deals. I don't really care if EE or JB come back and you guys should start getting used to not having them around.
MusicaEsLivida Verified Member Posted November 15, 2016 Author Posted November 15, 2016 I agree.. time for new blood and maybe a new concept on our offence. If you look at us now we already have 2 guys who are 30 + HR hitters ( donaldson and morales ) and 2 More 20 + ( Martin, Tulo ). There are also guy who could hit 20, 25 or even 30 ( travis , Upton , Smoak ) So we have enough power on average. We still have 1b and an OF to add.
ProfessionalAtBat Verified Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Morales played in one of the worst park for power hitters in the league. EE played in one of the best. Smart move by the FO

Smart move by the FO Most users here prefer to reference wRC+ when we talk about offensive production, it takes park factors into account. Any way you slice it, EE is a much better hitter and baserunner than Morales. The latter is especially being overlooked, Morales is one of the worst baserunners in the entire league.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 but, you kind of expect a DH to be a not so good baserunner, right ? The worse a baserunner they are, they better they need to hit to compensate. Edwin is an average-ish baserunner, so the gap between their bats is greater than it appears at first glance. You won't see Morales taking extra bases or breaking up double plays.

Appreciate what they did from 2010-16, but realize that is not the production you will be seeing from them from 2017-2021. Move on.
