Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I think it's fair to assume he'd still be a depth option in the event we have two or three downed starters. We'd probably be pretty f***ed if it things came to that though, I think our success against Bos/NY is going to rest heavily on the health of our rotation. No doubt.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Atkins yesterday... I still think he'll be considered if the team has to go 2-3 extra starters deep at the same time.

bzapple Verified Member Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 I consider minor league FAs to be filler more than I do depth. I think the types of guys our friend from Burlington is referring to are the ones who swing back and forth between being filler and depth, depending on their most recent performance. I don't think anyone wants to see another Ramon Ortiz getting starts, but if you can stockplie some guys who have had at least some semblance of MLB success, maybe one of them clicks and becomes a legitimate option. There are a number of swingman types available, like those that Grant mentioned, who could be available for cheap later in the offseason. I wouldn't mind the Jays having a look at Travis Wood, for instance.
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 My guess at how the first 10 games go. Sanchez gets opening game, Stroman gets home opener. Mon, 4/3 at Orioles - Sanchez Wed, 4/5 at Orioles - Stroman Thu, 4/6 at Rays - Happ Fri, 4/7 at Rays - Estrada Sat, 4/8 at Rays - Liriano Sun, 4/9 at Rays - Sanchez Tue, 4/11 Brewers - Stroman (Home Opener) Wed, 4/12 Brewers - Happ Thu, 4/13 Orioles - Estrada Fri, 4/14 Orioles - Liriano
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Home opener is vs. the Brewers? Not that I'd ever go to a home opener, but could we get less dramatic? Note - just realised I've been mis-using the word melodramatic for a couple of decades. Awesome.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 We'll see how durable Sanchez is this fall?
