I don't know man, Eric Thames scares me on a guaranteed deal even if the money is low.

What are his splits, can he hit lefties now? If one of EE or Jose sign will he play 1B or DH? I certainly don't want to see him in the OF again.

I think the power was always there with him but he had no discipline.

Btw it's his 30th Birthday today so Happy B-day Eric!

How did he have 40 stolen bases?

Maybe they use 60 foot bases. That or Korean catchers are shifty. He didn't really get on base much either in the mlb. Never got to show his talents.

Thames explained the work he’s put in with coach Jun-ho Jeon — known as the Stolen Base King of Korea. “Even little things like the way the glove’s tilted a little bit—’OK, go.’ ’On this pitch, go,'” Thames explained. “It’s like, are you serious? And then—bam!—it’s a high leg kick or a curveball. It’s like, how do you even know that? He’s one of those guys that has a natural eye for base-stealing.”

Good article.

Can you imagine all of the hot Korean chicks he gets to bang?

Yes, if people want to suggest that I discuss certain transactions, feel free.

Pearce. He's pretty much Howie Kendrick except not terrible.

FWIW Arden Zwelling on the latest ATL podcast said he spoke to an executive about Thames and said there was an issue with him last time he was with the Blue Jays. Sounded vague and I don't know if it was about PEDs or character concerns but it didn't sound like Thames was a Blue Jays target.

Good thing we have a new front office.

I'm all for this signing, but pretty sure he has been eating the same kind of dog food that Cola was.

Im sure he knows how to pass drug tests by now

It's not like he never faced MLB testing before. I don't really know why this angle gets so much play. He's either not someone who takes PED or someone who takes them and passes all his test. Non-issue either way.

Yep. He was still pretty damn huge, even before the KBO.

He played here once and not very well. He put up big numbers overseas but nothing here. How about you make some of these threads relating to our true need, bullpen help. Thames is of no interest.

I was being facetious really. He does have that pumped up Bonds ish look so it's hard to overlook. It's only an issue if you sign him, he is using, and he gets caught. Even then he is a flyer anyway.

The real test will be to see if his head shrinks 4 sizes like Barry's did after he retired.

Yeah but even then I don't think it's an issue. Whatever he's doing now, he was probably doing back then. He was jacked then and he's still jacked now. The thing is being jacked alone isn't some magic formula for success. Plenty of PED users suck. The premise that because he sucked in the MLB, he must have been clean then and only be dirty now is a faulty won. He was a young player with upside. He's probably made some legitimate improvements (though he'd have to come back to MLB to get a better measure of that). Also, the assumption that drug testing is weaker in Korea than it is in MLB doesn't seem fact based either. We know that MLB test can be beat. Plenty of know drug users never tested positive. The MLB test are not necessarily harder to beat than the Korean ones (unless you're taking turinabol in which case you need to switch it up or you'll end up like all the players who got caught this year because they were behind on the testing).

If he gets caught doing steroids and suspended, we don't have to pay his salary while he's suspended.

The real issue is if he signs a contract with us and stops doing steroids.

The Jays must have some kind of steroid advisors who teach these guys how to avoid detection.
