burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 One thing to add to the discussion here but I do not care if we sign another lefty or not. Loup can be the lefty for now I just want best available regardless of which arm they throw with. Well its certainly a factor (at least their splits vs LHH) but I'd agree in saying they need more than a LOOGY. Girado and Dermondy could probably fill that role if Loup goes down. I'd still prioritize LF over the pen.

Maybe if you had two similarly talented guys willing to sign for similar money I'd take the lefty but all things considered I simply want the best valued guys we can get. LF is an issue I agree but I don't think we have enough money to significantly upgrade this position. Moss is the one clear upgrade to me on the FA market and he's due for 8 mil or so you would think.

I'd easily take any of them over the best lefty.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Other than being a former closer, I don't really see what makes Holland a more enticing reclamation project than Hochevar.

Blevins isn't a LOOGY, he's a good reliever who could also happen to be our best option vs lefties.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Didn't Blanton retire? EDIT: Yes he did. I didn't see that. Just googled it and couldn't find it.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 wat when? Nope nvm. I'm f***ing dumn.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 isn't he a s***** defensive C who married his teacher?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 isn't he a s***** defensive C who married his teacher? Oh yes Some HR power otherwise he's crap
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 He really sucks. If true they must be a) not very confident in Jimenez at all and be offering him a rock bottom salary.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Does Fangraphs WAR as listed account for catcher framing yet??

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 At least he has MLB experience Would sign for like 1.5M Yeah it has to be an amount that doesn't get in the way of other things otherwise what's the point.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Other than being a former closer, I don't really see what makes Holland a more enticing reclamation project than Hochevar. Talent? Holland was a truly elite reliever, like Kenley Jansen, right up until his arm broke. A potential 85 million dollar man before the injury. Hochevar had good K/BB numbers the last two years but he got a bit rocked in the zone. He was better in 2013 but not close to elite.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Yuck, Salty might actually be worse than Kurt Suzuki. Maybe. Probably just as bad.

Hochevar seems like the wiser investment right now but it's so hard to tell. We really don't know much about their current physical state. Recency bias tells that Holland is the bigger question mark.

jerb Verified Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Sportsnet590 The FAN Verified account @FAN590 #BlueJays have signed SS Gregorio Petit to a minor league deal with an invite to Major League camp.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I would rather sign Hank Conger. Maybe he could find the framing skills he had not too long ago. He's also flashed decent BB and power skills at the plate, and is only 29. It doesn't seem like there is anything else out there. Hundley is a nightmare defensively, Hanigan is 35 and probably cooked, Clevenger seems terrible... Thole, Salty, Navarro, Brayan Pena. Nothing!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Another name to add to the backup C mix.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Juan Graterol sounds like what I take with water before I go on a flight.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Another name to add to the backup C mix. Holy s*** I called this one!
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Oh man, those back-up CA options are awful. Just go with AJ or Graterol and save the money.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Graterol is an average framer and does a good job holding baseunners. If he can get on base he'll be a solid back up at worst.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Can Conger throw to 2nd base? Can you wipe your own butt?
