Or relievers:

Wonder who they asked for?

Is there really a big difference if they were to trade Granderson for prospects and sign a high end reliever?

I get the impression that the FO was never all that interested in having him back, preferring the smaller commitments than locking an ageing DH up long-term at 20+M per year.

Can't expect the Jays to wait for EE to see if he can get more money or not, what if he did in a month and Pearce et al have signed elsewhere?

He might get 4/80 elsewhere, but looks like he won't get significantly more now. So in hindsight he'd prob have preferred to play here for that money, but that's the chance he took.

Well they offered him $80 Million so they didn't do a great job either. Looks like they should have waited out the market for Morales too.

It would be interesting if Shapiro intentionally offered this very reasonable deal during the "quiet period" that Kinzer alludes to, based primarily on the idea that Edwin was likely to reject.

Also, I've never heard the name Paul Kinzer before 20 minutes ago, but for some reason, I really hope this blows up in his face.

I can't see Shatkins playing chicken with 80M if he didn't really want him at that price.

lol, well since the season ended he's been on Fan590 several times (Jeff Blair / Tim & Sid). He's a sloooow talking southerner.

I don't know if it's as much "chicken" as it is going into the offseason identifying "alternative" paths to constructing next season's roster and associating a likelihood of either happening. Something like,

1. Signing Edwin early at 4/80 and then adding complementary pieces (20%)

2. Signing complementary pieces early and then making a Fowler-esque addition later on (80%)

If he signs early at that price great, follow Path 1, otherwise, move onto Path 2.

he's been an agent for quite a few players. His most notable f*** up was when he signed Krod with the Mets...but he neglected to submit his no trade list in time.

That allowed the Mets to trade him without consent

He eventually got fired from Wasserman and had to pay a settlement

Kinzer f***ed up. Basically didn't gauge the market well enough and now its costing his client his number 1 destination. And by the sound of it less money.

Shatkins and the Fo played this right, no doubt saving face with the fans and now his agent will take the beating!

At the time most here said the deal was Fair, today it might be a overpay!

Which leads to this question now, if money and years are the same Do you sign EE or Fowler knowing you only get one?

Awful move Edwin. Toronto is a great place

EE makes no sense for the team now. 4/80 is really pushing it for Fowler.

You don't like Southerners?

I don't know any southerners, I'm sure they're lovely people.

I'm just picturing Kinzer speaking with a Kevin Barker voice and backtracking after realizing he may have messed up Edwin's chance of making gobs of money while playing in his preferred location (assuming that Toronto is his preferred location).

Hopefully we can hold off on the irrational hatred of EE. Obviously he's going to hear other offers in FA. This is not a guy who signed a mega deal at any point in his life.

And let's not pretend that he's going to sign 1/16M. He'll still probably get 4/80M.

EE is way too lovable to hate. So instead we hate his agent and call him a greedy ******* because as fans we have to blame someone.

I don't think anyone feels any hatred toward Edwin. For me it's more the sentimental angle his agent seems to playing now that the team has moved on after offering Edwin a very reasonable deal.

This reminds me of Shark Tank. Guys always want to hear what other teams have to offer before deciding but sometimes the deals vanish if not taken right away

So the Blue Jays are more likely to part ways with both Bautista and Encarnacion..

I'm wondering what Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins is trying to do..

If he is trying to rebuild this team, I think he is on a wrong track.

We made it to the postseason for two straight seasons..

That means we should continue to be a contender until we are able to do.

I think the management's decision for not signing David Price was a good decision..

Although he contributed a lot to the Blue Jays to make a playoff run in 2015, we all knew he will sign with big clubs (Yanks, BoSox, etc)

However, Bautista and Encarnacion has been our core player for years.. and we would not had won the Wild Card game without those two..

I can't imagine what will happen to this team without those two core players.

Do you think the management is going on a path to rebuild this team from 2017 season?

Well if you were in their shoes I think you would have expected a little more desire from Jays front office. They offered a reasonable deal but Shapiro knew EE wouldn't take it without listening to other teams. No one in FA does that. I don't want to say it was a token offer, but it was almost a token offer.

It's not to say that our front office is wrong in the way they handled it but you could see how an agent would be disappointed or whatever.

I agree, it was the perfect offer from the Jays FO to be able to move on while coming out of it looking good. I don't want to say it was a low ball offer but it was a deal that Edwin probably expected from several teams as a starting point in negotiations. Jays were never going to a bidding war with another team and at the same time I can't blame them for moving on.

That's why I said if the money and year are the same? And stated overpay?

So 4/18, 3/15 or 2/16 for both kinda thing 4/20 for either is stupid then or now for either!

Also note fowler will cost us a pick too!
