Zeke over a small sample size is a 5 WAR player. Late last season and into to playoffs the dude was amazing. Just don't understand why he isn't able to do more magic more often

Well because he's not very good that's why.

Revere/Upton platoon. Kill that s*** with fire. Sometimes this board is obsessed with these s***** hipster reclamation project ideas. I'm positive we can do better than Revere.

+1. Unless we pony up $$ to add Fowler or EE + an impact reliever or 2 and need a budget option in LF.

The market is practically giving us JB and EE..we're just to stubborn to take it.

Or maybe JB and EE are too "stubborn" to take our offers.

It's weird with Carrera because I have such fond memories of him during this season. Yet you look at his stats, and he's not really that good. But I always remember him coming up with hits when we needed them the most.

Bautista might come back to the Jays, but I think the door has closed on Edwin. They gave him a good offer, he turned it down, and the Jays moved on. s*** happens.

Looks like Edwin is going to the Yankees. Unless someone else steps in. It seems the Astros were most willing to pay his price tag and they got a great deal with Beltran instead.

I'm not so sure I can call this a great deal for the Astros on Beltran. Sure, it's a low risk move for the most part, but Beltran will be playing the majority of 2017 as a 40 year old who hurts the team on defense, provides negative value with his legs, and probably isn't a good enough hitter to hit the 2 win plateau again. I think the Astros at best break even, which is fine given their position on the win curve, but Beltran, who projects to be worth half a win, likely doesn't earn his contract.

I thought they signed him to DH? I doubt he gets much time in the OF.

Well the positional adjustment will probably make his defensive value even worse.

The Astros have such a sick core of position players but I don't know if the vets they brought in are really that great. There's a s*** tonne that could go wrong with Beltran, Reddick, and McCann.

They should have went for something like EE/Cespedes or Fowler and a lower end guy like Pearce and then maybe McCann.

I don't know about that, plenty here were advocating for both Beltran and Reddick.

I like the signings for them, they have a very good team, could do with another starter but they've still got the assets to trade for one if they want to.

They've got a great chance of at least a wildcard.

Sorry to say, but based on recent stories of teams "winning" the offseason, the Astros are still a risk to miss the playoffs if they don't add pitching depth and McCann/Reddick/Beltran don't decline further.

And I imagine Texas and Seattle are also loading up as well..

Oh yeah I agree with that, but that's one of the reasons why sport is exciting. Teams that think they're going to be good can be awful, and vice versa.

I'd be relatively happy with the offseason so far if I was an Astros fan.

Revere does absolutely nothing for Toronto, other than offer depth. He's not an upgrade even on the current replacement level players.

I don't see what Revere offers that Pompey can't.

There's also no doubt in my mind that Revere is an upgrade over both Upton and Zeke. Sorry happy go lucky Zeke lovers :)

What i liked with revere is the fact he brings that disruptive energy putting both pitcher and cacther on alert, and the fielders too.

This is what I love about this board, the varied opinions people can have. And we haven't had anyone insulting anyone else for seeing things differently so far in this debate!

Some look at Revere and see a fast, cheap, bounce back candidate who hits lots of singles to get on base where he can use his speed.

Others see a zero power, replacement level player, who doesn't walk.

He's been both at times in his career so far!

As we already have Carrera, Upton and Pillar, I can see us only signing/trading for one more OF. So I'd be a bit disappointed if that OF was Revere.

They'll almost certainly add two outfielders, or at least one outfielder and another roster player who can play LF sometimes or platoon (ex. Steve Pearce). It would be pretty terrible if they didn't add two more OF options. There are two glaring holes.

I don't think they will add 2 OF unless someone is moved as part of a trade, or the 2nd is on a minor league deal.

While we might get a utility type player, Barney can also play LF. Perhaps they'll try Goins or Travis in the OF, or perhaps Gourriel will make the team a bit later in the season.

Lots of options - but while I think most of us would still want to see upgrades at 1B, LF and RF, and surely in an ideal world, the FO does too, that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

The have the payroll space to make responsible additions at every position, the team is at like 88 projected wins so these marginal wins are highly leveraged in value, and the front office absolutely knows this.

I'd bet my testicles that they add at least 1.5 outfielders.

They are getting half a outfielder, now that's out of the box thinking!

Or does this mean you have lost your testicles? Lol

Now this would be budget.

So was reading on Trade rumours only Two teams seemed interested in Turner, and that the Rangers may retain him for

5/85. Based on the Fact he can play more then one position and is even better defensively at first SSS then third, surprised he drew so little interest. If we flipped the EE contract and money to him which would be the better move for him, would you?

I think the easiest thing to do right now is secure Revere for like 2/10, that takes the stress off our needs a little bit.

Revere is an improvement over what?

Are we adding wins or just adding bodies?

I thought we were going to try to have a winner in the final two years of the Donaldson deal.
