Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Oh that's Cool, but can you confirm this? Does anybody know for sure? At Zero dollars would he not be a good trade chip? http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-verge-acquiring-melvin-upton-jr-padres/
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 A guy i am hoping we look at is Angel Pagan. I think he could on a 2 year deal and could be a very good buy low guy. Maybe i am wrong He's coming off a good year. Arguably his best since 2013. I don't think he's really a buy-low kind of player. But if he came cheap I'd consider it. Decent defensively in LF and a decent bat. He's got some speed and hits righties well.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 If he's cheap - it's a solid value play. Hard to get excited over a guy with a 2.5 WAR ceiling though. He's not a huge OBP guy (.330 career) and it looks like his defense has dropped off too. We need to find the 2009 version of him and sign that guy! Funny thing is we may have that guy in the name of Dalton Pompey. I'm glad you mentioned him. I see a lot of names thrown around for these corner OF spots and I'm not sure that all of them are better than a Pompey/Upton platoon.

At 35 and injury issues i don't think he is going to crack that 10 mil mark. Realistically i would say you would be in the ballpark of 2/18. Which i think if he has a healthy year like last year he would easily provide good value.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Some details regarding Greg Holland's status with the Royals and free agency. Hochevar looks to become a FA too. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/kansas-city-royals/article110096872.html
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 I don't really see why pagan would get more than Aoki did in his last two deals (1/4 and 1/5.5). Maybe he goes to 1/6 or 1/7 or something?

Other then that very similar players
ILikeSoccerandBaseball09 Verified Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Pretty sure they want to trade a starter and bring back MLB position player. Either Happ or Acetrda will go imo replaced by a stretched out Biagini No he said they might, but he also said its unlikely they do.

Other then that very similar players Pagan barely has more power than Aoki. He hit 12 homers this year but 3 out of 5 years that Aoki has been in the league he has outhomered Pagan.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Was just reading the above How do we feel about Saunders coming back on a 2/20 or 2/24 He's Canadian so I'd be down for that.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 if any sort of deal was to materialize to move Tull or Martin I would jump all over it. Clearing that kind of $$$ wold be huge for the future of this team In what way? Finances aren't exactly a problem for us right now. The farm system is on the upswing and we have strong group of young major leaguers. The focus should be on augmenting a team that has been top 4 in baseball for 2 consecutive years.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 One thing to keep in mind regarding trading Estrada is that he's in the last year of his deal and could very well be a QO player after next season. He seems like he might be the right kind of player to accept a QO as well. Idk that's a long ways away but it's something to consider.

I really wouldn't be interested in dealing from our SP strength until we've exhausted all other options. We were healthy this year, but the rotation depth is still rather thin. I think the free agent market and some small trades involving minor leaguers is the best way to address our needs.

Agreed, healthy two years in a row is not happening.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Somehow I was sure we had an option on Estrada beyond next year

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 I'm not comfortable assuming that Pompey projects better than an established major league outfielder and even if he does, you still need the depth.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Yeah, this team really needs to invest in a high-end 3B. Could put him at 2nd and trade Pillar or Travis.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Was just reading the above How do we feel about Saunders coming back on a 2/20 or 2/24 No thanks. Would prefer to move on from him all together.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Thinking of some trade ideas. Marcus Stroman for Joc Pederson...what do you think? Dodgers seem like they could use another SP with Hill departing as a FA and since their rotation is filled with injury prone arms after Kershaw and Maeda. Stroman in the NL would be a nice fit for them. Pederson would give the Jays an athletic outfielder who is left-handed and has some pop & speed. Playing half of his games at the Rogers Centre could definitely improve his power output. I think Pederson's value has taken a slight hit in comparison to where it was two years ago though he still has huge upside and Stroman had some ups & downs this season, so it would definitely be a challenge trade on both sides.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I loved what Atkins said today. Sounds like we're in for one hell of an offseason. I loved the Alex/Beeston combo, but I think the team lead by Shapiro is MUCH more professional in terms of their approach, and more calculated at that. I wonder what this guy can do now that he has money to play with.

No. We need Stro

Value wise it's fair enough. I'd just rather keep Stroman and sign an outfielder instead of being forced into a poor SP market. Make no mistake, we're not in a position to give away pitching depth and we'll pay dearly if we do.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Depends on how he was asked the Bautista question. If he was straight up asked about Bautista's defensive ability, it would be harder to sidestep Yes he did. Wilner literally said "Do you see Bautista as still an outfielder defensively". No other way he can answer that question.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I don't know why some want to trade the SP depth. As is the Jays need more SP depth, not less.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Here is an article on 3B FA Jae-Gyun Hwang http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/around-the-diamonds/jae-gyun-hwang-koreas-next-position-player-import/
agrushcow Verified Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I wouldn't trade Stroman unless it was for a great return. But it is a discussion board. Genuinely curious what type of a return you could get for him? Or Happ or Estrada for that matter. Everyone's gotta price. You guys telling me dealing Stro for a 6 WAR guy like Adam Eaton wouldn't be an intriguing route to take?
