fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 Blue Jays fans are pretty classless. Most casuals just go to the games to get buzzed. Pretty much, the Jays fans have always been top notch douches and now we have a good team to boast about too lol
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Once this series ends we are going to really find out a lot of things about the locker room.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Merritt maxes out at 90. In very limited innings he's been predominantly fastball/changeup. Gotta smash.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 This guy sucks. Minor league career: 6.2 K/9 9.3 H/9 Doesn't walk many so jump on him early.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Yup. Crucial to score early because Miller and Allen will be ready. Would be nice to win a game that they throw in.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Why wouldn't you just sit slider on Miller and look to pound it to right?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Why wouldn't you just sit slider on Miller and look to pound it to right? Easier said than done. I'm sure hitters are trying that.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Easier said than done. I'm sure hitters are trying that. I'm not convinced they are. You've got to eliminate one of the pitches until you've got two strikes. He's had a ton of success with the slider. This would be my approach at the dish.

He's had a ton of success with the slider. This would be my approach at the dish. In the past, we've had success by taking the slider off of the plate and forcing him to come into the zone with his hittable fastball. The problem now is that he's getting strikes on anything within 6 inches of the plate. They have to protect on that slider off the plate or they'll get rung up looking, but it's also unhittable. There's nothing wrong with the approach if the umpires don't help him in my opinion.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Good to see Jose give them some bulletin board fodder What did 'Team Traitor' have to say today?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I like it. This team was dead in the water this time yesterday. The guys aren't giving up and clearly played hard today. Donaldson, EE, etc. all showing some emotion and not giving up. They won today and it's given them some life. Talk s***. Play hard. Don't give up.

There have been a lot of sliders on the outer third that the hitters have been taking, almost a complete unwillingness to go the other way. Navarro's swing last night was a textbook approach when facing Miller.

He's talking smack and he's what, 1 for his last 23?
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Oh my god Jose stfu and actually contribute on the field.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Hey Guyz How big is not taking out Stroman now

The hitters have to protect on that outside ball because they are calling it a strike. It's an extremely difficult pitch to hit. They need to find a way though.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 He'd better back up his big mouth.

You are 100% correct -the Jays have fundamentally failed to make adjustments to what constitutes a strike in this series- and low and outside is a strike, and that is that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 The path to winning the series is at least visible. Estrada-Happ-Stroman is clearly better than Merritt-Tomlin-Bauer, cumulatively and probably in every specific matchup too. Just need to get leads when the starters are in the game and then hold them. Can't let Cleveland hand a lead to their bullpen. If Bauer can't go I wonder if they would try Kluber again on 3 days rest? Would be crazy but with the season on the line they might.

The plan is to start Kluber in a potential Game 7. That's part of the reason why they moved him up to 4. Other reason of course was to space out two potential bullpen starts. If they didn't already have 3 games in the bag, Cleveland would actually be in a pretty bad position. That pitching staff is barely holding together.

I read somewhere that it was going to 90% be Merrit, Tomlin and Kluber
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 They should probably piggy back Kluber, Bauer, et al in a scenario like that.

Alright, well Kluber on 3 days rest for the second time in a row is probably a completely different pitcher than Corey Kluber so that might not change the outlook much.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 But are they 6 inches off the plate? That's a lot. That's the debate. There have been a few that far out, yes. I'm not pretending to be an expert on hitting, but here's my take on it. When a hitter sees those pitches called, even on an inconsistent basis, they have to expand their zone to accomodate that pitch. We've seen a couple of instances where they take a clearly outside pitch and get rung up. The implications of those calls go far beyond the single pitch in my opinion, especially with a pitcher like Miller who can keep putting it there.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Glad to see we won. Just started thinking and I think we have a good shot at winning the next 3 games. Our pitching is in good shape. Cleveland will throw the rookie, Tomlin and then Klubot on short rest again. Chances are the rookie may buckle, Tomlin we know what to expect now. Klubot on short rest may not be effective. Just need the offense to produce.
