I would say it goes:

Number 1

Number 2

Number 5

Number 3

Number 4

The Tax implications don't matter much, as all big time players have smart accountants that they can get around most of it. And I have yet to see a player cite relationships with the staff as a reason for staying.

You don't think a player's relationship with players, management, and coaches impacts his decision to stay with his team, or sign with a new one? Of course it does. That's human nature.

AJ Burnett reportedly signed with Toronto with his relationship to Arnsberg being a factor

While the Indians certainly have a 1-2 punch to rival ours and shut us down, they have a superior bullpen.

If we can defeat the Indians in either of the first two games, I will be very happy.

What scares me is that stupid huge wall in LF. Lets hope the hitters run out all flyballs to prevent getting thrown out at 2nd.

You'd also have to assume number 1 (which should be combined with 3 btw if you have an agent with half a brain) takes up like 90% of their decision. The rest might factor in more depending on the type of player they are, if they have kids in school or not married, etc.

Sure but playing Notstrodamus about who will make it deeper into the playoffs would be a really dumb way to use it (though from what everyone's saying, it doesn't sound like that was actually the case).

I would also reject a trade to Cleveland. s*** city and it's not like the fanbase cares about baseball, bottom 5 in attendance I think

Yeah. Even in cases like Lucroy's, future salary would have been on his mind when Cleveland told him he wouldn't be a full time catcher next year.

I think the fact that we reached the ALCS kinda played a role

I doubt very much that he cared.

Cleveland used to be one of the best baseball markets. You should ask our current team president what happened

I've always thought that despite what they have to say in the media, team success is probably like the 5th or 6th most important factor in deciding where to play:

1. salary

2. how much the city works for them and their family

3. tax impacts of living in that city

4. relationships they have with people employed by the team

5. odds of team success

The fans like to assume that 5 is everything, and generally the players play along.

Something that people are not talking about which is very important is that Cleveland wasn't going to do the deal if Lucroy wasn't going to pen an extension. I'm pretty sure he want's to hit the FA market, good chance he gets a handsome payout. I'm pretty sure the last report was that the Indians camp felt that they were giving up too much for a rental anyways, it wasn't really a fit

A factor that would be important in a market like Toronto is that a player is probably more likely to sign or return here than they would come here initially.

That played a factor with Happ I am sure. Not that we didn't pay the most but the fact that he had played here and it wasn't bizzaro world was important.

Probably with Estrada as well.

Lebron's our current team president?

The same thing that will happen here if Rogers drops payroll back to the bottom-5. I don't think that Shapiro would actually throw Cleveland's ownership under the bus.

I know the Jays have decided by now as to get the pitchers prepared... but, won't tell us for a while.

I say...

Wednesday they should play a light intersquad game with Dickie and Stroman pitching.. pitch like its a real game so the batter can keep that timing. but .. easy on the bases. lighter on defence, no one hurt ... then

game 1 Estrada

game 2 Happ

game 3 Sanchez

game 4 Stroman

game 5 estrada

game 6 happ

game 7 Sanchez

while the idea isn't bad, do you want to risk messing up some of the hitters' timing by batting against dickey?

Unless you make

Dickey's team = carrera/pill/bautista/Donaldson/tulo/barney/encarnacion/martin; and

stromans team = upton/saunders/pompey/goins/????/????/smoak/navarro

No DHs so 8 hitters per team and all the bench players hitting against dickey. Or probably better is just that it is stroman + 2 relievers vs a team of 6 relievers in a 6 inning game. With everyone going 1 inning and Stro 4

Jays currently a -130 favorite to win the series vs. the Indians. Fangraphs playoff odds has us at a 59% chance to win the ALCS - not sure if that factors in the Indians injuries or not.

Interestingly, they have us at 27.8% WS favs, with the Cubs at 27.3%, however I'm sure this would/will swing back in the Cubs favour if and when they actually eliminate the Giants.

Pretty sure this is the case. Numbers are probably based on the fact that the Jays are already in the ALCS and the Cubs are still in the NLDS

Yeah, the Giants have 5% which would be distributed among the NLCS teams, probably mostly the Cubs. If the Cubs played the Jays in the WS, the Cubs would probably be something like 55/45 favs.

Sanchez will be game 4 most likely as they are trying to limit his innings.

Stroman pitching in game 4 would mean he would have 13 days rest between starts, I dont think that is a good idea.

I think it will be

Stroman

Happ

Estrada

Sanchez

Stroman

Happ

Estrada

With Sanchez available out of the pen for game 7 or possibly game 6

Its never going to happen, but....... Does Chicago burn down if Giants come back on the Cubs.... Small part of me wants to see this to see what the reaction would be.
