rydermike Verified Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Dermody's going? That means he won't be in the ALCS or WS celebrations like the WC one
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 I thought Tellez was playing winter ball? Sounds like he will play in the DWL. http://www.diariocristal.com/estrellas-contratan-inicialista-rowdy-tellez/#.V-J0UtcDNBs.twitter Las Estrellas Orientales hired Rowdy Tellez baseman for the baseball season in the country will begin on 20 October, with the tournament dedicated to Dr. Alejandro Sanchez Asmar by the League of Professional Baseball in the Dominican Republic. Tellez may also serve as designated hitter, he explained the general manager of the Stars, Jose Serra. This year in Double A (Eastern League), Tellez was fourth in home runs (23) and sixth in RBIs (81). His batting average (.297) was the ninth circuit, which was sixth in doubles (29). The player of the Toronto Blue Jays organization was third in slugging percentage (.530) and OPS (.917) of that league. Serra said Tellez could alternate with Jim Adduci, another imported hired by the Stars, as first baseman and designated hitter club. He recalled that the imported Rob Segedin also a third baseman, could defend sometimes act first base or designated hitter also. Tellez as Adduci both are left-handed hitters. These two, along with Segedin, are called to be hitters in the middle of the lineup of Stars.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 Here is the website for the Venezuelan Winter League - http://www.lvbp.com/ Jason Leblebijian is playing for the Aguilas, and is off to a hot start hitting .417/.632/.750 in his first 4 games. The website is a pain in the ass to navigate so I couldn't really find anymore. Games for the DWL, or VWL, or Mexican winter league are often streamed here: http://www.ustream.tv/explore/sports/all?subCategory=sports-baseball For example, there is a game on right now, Video Capture Software This is for the VWL, Aguilas vs Navegantes. http://m.mlb.com/gameday/aguilas-vs-navegantes/2016/10/10/488041 . Jason Leblebijian is batting 3rd and starting at 3B
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 Spats is an AFL regular, so we are expecting updates daily. Hopefully he can weasel his way around and talk to some Blue Jays front office staff this year.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Tellez could play just one month with Estrellas Orientales. Serra told "I don't know if the kid want to play"
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 Another storyline to follow in the AFL is Tim Tebow. He was recently assigned there by the mets.

King Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 What happened with the funding to the Australian League, wonder what's going on there? The league was running on a loss financially and MLB decided to allocate their money elsewhere, now they put it towards helping Baseball Australia and baseball academies there. It's a shame, since that league was pretty good as far as winter leagues go. All the games were broadcasted in HD, and we had several decent prospects there each year. It was very fan friendly and easy to follow.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I'm expecting Conner Greene to have a big AFL. The Jays brass were very excited about the progress he made near the end of the season and I'm sure he is there so they can see him build on it.

Hopefully he can weasel his way around and talk to some Blue Jays front office staff this year. I'll do my best. Are you down here also? I'll be going to the game in Mesa tomorrow afternoon and will give you an update tomorrow night. Unfortunately, I'm only here until the 21st, so will try to squeeze in as many as I can. I'll also include Tebow in my report on Friday. I don't expect to see any front office staff, since the Jays are going to the World Series but Mel Didier is usually around and he is very approachable.

King Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 Not much going on in the AFL today... Ryan McBroom went 1/4 with a single. Former Jays prospect Franklin Barreto is on Mesa as well, started at shortstop but went 0/4 with 3 strikeouts and a throwing error. Matt Dermody pitched one clean inning with no strikeouts or walks. In the Venezuelan Winter League.. Jason Leblebijian started at 3B again for Aguilas, but went 0/4. Former Jays minor leaguer Austin Bibens-Dirkx is starting for Aragua.. 5IP 2H 1ER 1BB 4K. Jesus Montero DH for Cardenales, 0/2 with a strikeout. Wilmer Font has pitched 0.2 innings with a walk and a strikeout. A whole lot of nothing, really. Spats report from todays Mesa game coming later!

It was good to see Barreto have a bad game....I hated giving him up at the time. The only highlight of the afternoon was speaking to Conner Greene and finding out that he will start Saturday. Should have gone golfing.
