BlueJaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Maybe it's just me but does anyone else think that Dennis Eckersley is cheering against the Blue Jays? For example during Game 2 when Texas had 1 or 2 runners on base when the score was 5-1, he said maybe this will start a comeback for them, whereas when Toronto was able to get their home runs he barely said anything. Perhaps he is still pissed about Alomar's home run in 1992 which could be the reason why he is anti-Toronto and pro Texas.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 He's just a terrible broadcaster altogether. He did a lot of Red Sox games this year and he was brutal, a total homer, which is weird given that he spent most of his career playing in Oakland, and just not particularly capable of making solid analysis. He would often refer to "this guy" when discussing opponent players that he wasn't familiar with, and I believe he also gave these awkward nicknames to some of the Sox players.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Dennis Eckersley clearly doesn't possess the professionalism to be a big stage broadcaster. The Alomar HR broke his untouchable status, and at the time, he really was untouchable.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Still sore about Robbie homering off him.
Steveorama Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Terrible broadcaster with zero unique input to conversations. It pains me to have to watch the American announcers in the playoffs. Biases aside, they just aren't very good at delivering any inciteful analysis.

That's not anti Toronto bias. All broadcasters have a pro competitive game bias. You'll notice they'll always point out scenario that could get the losing team back in the game. They don't want the casual viewers tuning out. That's broadcasting 101, really.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Might be because he is jealous of the Jays and has some internal insecurities that Canada is better than the US.
Belliss101 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 The whole tbs broadcast has been pathetic. How did they get postseason rights over ESPN?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Awful broadcaster yes. Anti-Jays nope. He's a negative guy, especially about hitters and manager decisions. It's just in your minds. Go read every team's fans comments about him. With the exception of the Red Sox, they all think he's anti-their team (including Texas this series. Stop putting on your Grant Approved tin foil helmets people there is no media conspiracy against the Jays.

The fact that the replay system is extremely flawed and makes obvious mistakes isn't a conspiracy theory. It's a fact with irrefutable evidence. If you have evidence to suggest otherwise then let's see it or take back your asinine comment. I don't mind criticism, but making up s*** off the top of your head and spreading it is f***ing childish.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Eck had some pretty glowing things to say about Osuna.

BlueJaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Author Posted October 8, 2016 The whole tbs broadcast has been pathetic. How did they get postseason rights over ESPN?Personally I thought the TBS crew with Ernie Johnson, Ron Darling and Cal Ripken who did the Wild Card game and who are currently doing the Cleveland - Boston series are a lot better than the crew who are doing the Blue Jays series. Plus I'm going to assume for the ALCS they would be doing those games, so we won't be hearing Eckersley anymore since they are the #1 broadcast team. Also at starting in the ALDS TBS, Fox and MLB Network seem to switch every year between the AL and NL. Last year Fox and MLB Network had the rights for the AL games and TBS did the NL games.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Take back your slanderous comment or provide some evidence. 1. it would be libelous 2. I take it back, Grant does not have an approved line of Foil Helmets 3. The BJMB executive will be working on a non-approved Grant foil helmet line for sale via this board. BlueJaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Author Posted October 8, 2016 I forgot to mention besides Eckersley the one other person who completely ignored Toronto and refused to give them any credit was Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo. For those who have MLB Network he has a show called High Heat and prior to the Wild Card game he predicted the Blue Jays would lose because in the end their bullpen was not as good compared to the one Baltimore had. While he might have been right about that here is what I hated about him. The day after the Wild Card game not once did he give Toronto any credit for their win or even mention how their bullpen allowed 0 hits, with the one negative being a Brett Cecil walk. Instead he focused on how Zach Britton was never used. While that might have been the popular thing to focus on you think saying Toronto's bullpen pitched a lot better than expected should have been mentioned. Other than Russo being an idiot every other analyst at MLB Network seems to give each team equal attention and that includes the Blue Jays.
vic city Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Ya the comentating has been horrible. Pro Texas for sure. Which I guess is fine but I hate how they make Odor sound like a legend for punching Bautista. Maybe it's more of a case of Bautista not being liked around baseball circles? But I was hoping for better than these clowns.
Romis5 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 whole broadcast booth has been pretty bad imo...I found it so strange yesterday that they kept on saying how the Rangers #1 goal was to get Osuna in the game?? Like, if Osuna is in the game, then the Rangers aren't winning...regardless, hopefully this is done tomorrow!
Mozzer Verified Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I thought yesterday the broadcast shifted towards a Jays love in at times. There will always be a pro-American bias in the broadcast, but I do think we're a bit too sensitive about it. The only way to shut them up for awhile is to keep winning.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 One thing baseball doesn't want... Toronto in the world series. Nielson ratings, which is what all the networks use down there for advertising rates etc,...do not cover canada so having the Jays in the world series would be awful from a monetary perspective. It's just a fact. Cubs and Red Sox series and everyone in MLB would have non stop erections for weeks. I don't think there's any fix or anything like that going on, that's just how it is. It's no different than how ratings in canada would nosedive if the Olympic hockey final was Finland vs Sweden. And as I write this, Travis Shaw strikes out and the MLB brass will have to re-up on their Cialis prescriptions.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 They sang O'Canada for god's sake the bias is in the ears not the voice.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Toronto will be a better draw than any Cleveland team without a player named LeBron.
ComeTogether Verified Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Eck was pretty good. He gave good insights on pitch selection. Said good things about Osuna, and jays starters I prefer the home announcers, but I don't think tbs was anti jays at all. People are too sensitive.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Toronto will be a better draw than any Cleveland team without a player named LeBron. You know that's not true. The freakin' Twins are involved in 2 of the highest rated World Series of all time (I think they are 2nd and 3rd). Jays followed Twins and Braves 1991 2nd best ratings of all time and it dropped by 10M viewers. Cleveland the Braves was split between 2 networks and coming off a strike year (and low ratings all year) and matched the Jays and Braves in 92. A battle of futility between the Cubs and Indians would jump back into the 20M households.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Remember Cito accused him of doctoring the baseballs on the mound? When the umpire went to the mound to check him out, you could clearly see he threw something away. That's what has been stuck in his craw all these years. We know what you did Eck!!!
