Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Gibbons isn't crazy enough to start Navarro tomorrow, right? No, unless Martin is actually hurting.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Optimal lineup for tomorrow: Travis Donaldson Edwin Bautista Tulowitzki Martin Upton Pillar Carrera
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 No, unless Martin is actually hurting. He tore his finger open in the celebration last night and had to get stitches. Apparently he's good to go though.
Caper Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Gibbons isn't crazy enough to start Navarro tomorrow, right? It's not that crazy. Martin has a cut hand. They are about the same offensive threat.. Martins D is better but DN is not terrible and has had success with Marco.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Martin needs to be moved to the bottom of the lineup. Probably 7th with hand injury. Travis Donaldson Encarnacion Bautista Tulo Upton Martin Pillar Zeke
admin Site Manager Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Jays really needed a Beltran/Pearce upgrade at the deadline. Should be a rule whatever team you beat in the playoffs you can pick one guy from their team.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Martin needs to be moved to the bottom of the lineup. Probably 7th with hand injury. Travis Donaldson Encarnacion Bautista Tulo Upton Martin Pillar Zeke Upton hitting 6th. I'm glad you're not the manager

In fairness I think Jays FO thought they would get more out of Upton than they have to date. Really hope he can get something going against TEX.

I really didn't mind the whole saunders/upton/Smoak DH option. if any of them really suck it will be limited with the changes later in the game. they really need to swap Tulo and Martin. the whole -Pillar-Carrera and then roll over to Travis setup has been very good. Carrera and Pillar have been very clutch the last 10 games.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Upton hitting 6th. I'm glad you're not the manager Against a lefty why not? Martin is struggling and now has a hand injury. Its really Upton or Pillar. Or Martin just hit 6th and you have Upton, Pillar, and Zeke all in order something I wanted to avoid in my thought process as well.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Slash lines of the catchers: Martin: .231/.335/.398 Navarro: .182/.250/.182 Thole: .169/.254./.220 One of these is not like the others. Hint: Navarro and Thole are practically the same, Martin is not.
admin Site Manager Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 What. This isn't a f***ing videogame What does that even f***ing mean? The Jays can't make a better upgrade than Upton? You like Smoak and Navarro off the bench? lol
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 What. This isn't a f***ing videogame Was he actually being serious.....?
ChrisS Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Navarro is garbage for the most part. Terrible framer, no speed on the bases. I think Thole might have been just as good a PH as him. Look at Tholes offensive stats 2nd half of the season, they are abit better.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 What?.... It's true. Navarro was a worse hitter than Thole. Which is crazy.

Candide Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 here's a random hypothetical that I had with a friend yesterday. would you guys rather have the Jays, over the course of the next 8 seasons: 1) win the division/wild card annually but have only a 25% chance of winning the World Series in any given season 2) win the world series once within the 8 seasons, but play sub .500 ball for the remaining 7 seasons?

With 1, by probability you'd win it twice in 8 seasons...so whoever chooses #2 is a dummy.
Candide Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 With 1, by probability you'd win it twice in 8 seasons...so whoever chooses #2 is a dummy. that was exactly my point. my buddy (Jays fan) went with #2. I told him he either sucks at basic probability or is just saying that but couldn't actually endure the torture of 1,134 meaningless games. If we were Cubs fans though? Would probably go with #1 and then follow the Blackhawks and Bulls.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 With 1, by probability you'd win it twice in 8 seasons...so whoever chooses #2 is a dummy. Even if you don't win in scenario 1: if the Cubs repeat this season for the next 7 years but never win a WS and the Indians win this year and then then are mismanaged to also-ran sub-0.500 status for the next 7, which team has the more successful and interesting 8-year stretch? I think it's the Cubs, and it isn't close.
