BTS Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 They failed to add a decent starter at the deadline (Harrell got injured), Holland turned into crap, Martin Perez was bad most of the season, AJ Griffin stunk after the All-Star Break Colby Lewis has been mostly awful since returning from injury, Hamels has struggled recently, and having one of the league's worst defenses (except at 3B) doesn't help. Their team graded out as average in DRS and UZR. They don't have one of the league's worst defenses.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Carlos Gomez really turned it around since getting to Texas.
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 These division series' should be 7 gamers. A 5 game series gives an unfair advantage to teams with 1 or 2 great starters and penalizes those teams with good depth in starting pitching. Texas can basically pitch Darvish/Hamels in 4/5 of the games, so the fact their 3-5 starters suck doesn't really impact them that much. I'd like to see ALDS and ALCS at 7 games each, with WS being a 9 game series.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I definitely would have rather faced Cleveland, but I'll take facing the Rangers over Boston.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I definitely would have rather faced Cleveland, but I'll take facing the Rangers over Boston. I think Cleveland is easily the weakest AL team. No Salazar or Carrasco, and Kluber isn't 100% healthy. Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin are going to combine for 3 starts.
TRM Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 It's important for my stress levels that the Jays don't drop the first two games again. That was tough.

Rangers if you can get into their bullpen you might have a shot but doing that against Hamels and Darvish is easier said then done.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Their team graded out as average in DRS and UZR. They don't have one of the league's worst defenses. All inflated by Adrian Beltre playing 3B.. They're below average or worse at SS, 2B, CF when Desmond plays there, and there isn't enough sample size on Gomez as a Ranger.. his numbers in Houston in CF were not good, as he has regressed badly since leaving Milwaukee. Texas being tied for 2nd worst in errors is a problem.
ChrisS Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 The Jays also need to be mentally focused, what happened earlier this season needs to be put aside.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Carlos Gomez really turned it around since getting to Texas. Not really--it was more due to a hot streak in September feasting on bad AL West teams out of contention. And his numbers vs. Toronto were putrid..

Rangers if you can get into their bullpen you might have a shot but doing that against Hamels and Darvish is easier said then done. Cleveland still has that strong bullpen--if Tomlin/Bauer/Kluber can have a lead by the 6th, they'll have a good shot.

TRM Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Toronto's offence is really bad (if you exclude Donaldson). Why do you respond to the dog?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Why do you respond to the dog? I don't usually

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Darvish is the one that scares me. In 100 AB, we've only had 18 hits while striking out 38 times. He's also finished off the year with two very good outings (combined 13 innings, 5 hits, 2 walks, 21 k's). I think we can handle Hamels (not that he isn't a good pitcher too).
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Dominican hits Hamels well. If we beat Hamels the series could be easy to take.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Dominican hits Hamels well. If we beat Hamels the series could be easy to take. But can Dominicans hit Darvish?
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Jays need to take 1 of 2 in Texas tomorrow, then we will be in good shape.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 But can Dominicans hit Darvish? Nah... Darvish will f*** us.
ILikeSoccerandBaseball09 Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Hamels stas vs the Jays 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA We need to win the 1st game.
ILikeSoccerandBaseball09 Verified Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 We have played some really tough games in our division. I think we can pull off a series win.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Hamels stas vs the Jays 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA We need to win the 1st game. Nice. Good to see. How did he do last year against us? I can't remember

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Gibby strikes again. Just got a notification on my phone that he's set the starting rotation as follows: 1: Estrada 2: Happ 3: Sanchez 4: Stroman With that setup we only get 1 start out of Sanchez.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Its like you guys completely forget that ANYTHING can happen in a short 5-game/7-game series. There are no guarantees in the MLB postseason.
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 As long as the Jays can steal 1 game in Texas to start the series I will be happy, bring it home Jays!
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Gibbons isn't crazy enough to start Navarro tomorrow, right?
