Buck should never have used Ubaldo Jimenez and instead have gone to arguably the best inning by inning pitcher in Major League Baseball this year.

And bring in who??? He clearly doesn't wanna bring in Britton unless there's a save situation, even if the season is on the line... LOL

Also not sure how he wouldn't have brought him in after that. And at the very least winning runner on third. You have the best reliever in baseball sitting there who very well could have gotten out of that jam.

The moment I saw Ubaldo warming up, I knew the Jays had it as long as Liriano kept it tied. Just a stupid ass move by Buck.

Runners on the corner... one out, injured player st first and slow runner st home. You have the closest reliever to win the CY Young since the last time a reliever won it, who's the only pitcher I see throwing a 97 mph fastball and an equally fast 97 mph sinker with late movement and thrown with control, Which you know is perfect for a DP if not a K.... but nope

Unreal. We'd be losing our s*** right now. And I thought there was no one worse than Gibbons.

Number of non Britton questions so far...none!

Are you watching him???? Man the reporters are stumbling trying to ask these they're dumbfounded. I liked the guy who asked if it was the philsophical idea of using a closer in a non save situation. Called buck out lol

It was a horrible decision, but hasn't he been known as a bit of an against the grain manager? Maybe a tiny bit of credit from walking his own path no matter what.

I will give credit to Buck for his classy remarks re: the beer throwing

Surprisingly non snappy answer on the beer throwing incident from Buck

Especially for someone who had just finished being bombarded with questions about his decisions, Buck was all class there.

He restrained himself but did say something about 'our country'.

Anyway...

Meh, a losing manager can never "win", they will always be second guessed.

This wasn't second guessing, EVERYBODY was wondering why Buck never went to Britton, LONG before Ubaldo came in.

No, if Zach Britton starts out the 11th inning and by some miracle the Blue Jays score a run or someone hits a homerun (same thing), I can guarantee you that no one with half a brain would blame Buck Showalter for using the single biggest asset that he owns in his pitching staff. We're not even comparing using Givens, O'Day or Brad Brach - admittedly excellent relievers in their own right - to not using Britton, but rather UBALDO JIMENEZ, who was dragged out to the extent of having multiple double play opportunities following meatball after meatball, over using one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, who also happens to be maybe the best groundball pitcher of all time. This was an indefensible decision with given arguments that should be a fireable offense on the spot.

Also lost in the brilliance that was Ubaldo over Britton, Steve Pearce - he of a 136 wRC+ and a career 130 wRC+ hitter vs LHP (also exactly league average against RHP, and better since his breakout season) - acquired specifically for his hitting, did not get a single plate appearance in the entire game, this is also someone who has played 1B, 2B, 3B and OF this season at a reasonably but not terribly below average level, so he's not just some plug out there. But you know, Nolan Reimold definitely needed to be in that game or something.

Pearce had season ending forearm surgery a few weeks ago I believe.

They kept showing who was getting warm in the O's bullpen and I became increasingly dumbfounded at the fact that it was never Britton. If he used him for a couple earlier he could have still held back any of his other good relievers for a potential save if he felt the need.

I've been wondering though, had we been on the road in Baltimore for this one would Gibby have held Osuna back?
