Pearce will be 34 and barely eclipsed 100 games in his career one time- what makes you think he's a productive player over a full season, if that's what you're saying? Sure if the team is looking to squeeze value maybe, but if they plan on contending they need to do better. Signing Pearce to be a starter is a terrible idea IMO.

 

- Has been worth 2 wins in half a season of play

- Wasn't really given a chance earlier in his career and had to play himself into an everyday role with TB

- Inexplicably lost every day status with Baltimore and then got injured

- Last year was a victim of poor BABIP luck

- Can competently play 1B, OF and 2B

- Is far better than Smoak and Saunders

Why not possibly make a splash and go after Desmond or Reddick?

The guy is dreadful......even as a backup.

He'll land on the bench of a team 20 games out of their division lead at the all star break next year.

Gomez, Jackson, Pearce, Ramos (to DH)....there are OF and DH types available that might provide value. Seems more sensible to go that route than try again with Saunders who is failing miserably in the 2nd half and can't play a lick of defense.

I don't see how you can offer it to Saunders at this point. I think at this point you tip your hat to the half season of wonderfulness that he provided, and move on.
