Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 1-5 in September. Red Sox could take over first place tonight. Orioles a game back and the Yankees right in the mix as well. Finishing 4th in the Division is a very real possibility. Short version update- 2-7 in September. Red Sox 2 games up. Orioles tied. Tigers and Yankees 2 back with easy schedule. Finishing 4th or behind tigers and/or Yankees is an even higher probability, then it was Wednesday night.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Then you can stop posting for the rest of year?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Then you can stop posting for the rest of year? Most likely yes. When the implosion is completed, on fan appreciation day, to a half empty stadium, tickets being sold for 10 bucks, sucking the life out of the 3 millionth fan. It will be quite the downer and a lot of us will stop posting for a while.

Besides, the Yankees won't last--Dodgers and Red Sox are coming up, and it's very likely they will struggle vs. them. Realistically, Baltimore and Toronto are getting the wild cards. Jays will break out of this slump soon--likely this week against weaker competition. Detroit needs to beat Cleveland before they even can think of making the playoffs (1-11 vs. them) and the Royals (6-10). And their bullpen is trash. As for Baltimore--the Red Sox can pretty much put their playoff hopes on the bubble (7 games left vs. them). Jays are lucky to have Tampa at home, LA and Seattle on the sked--we can make up ground with these 3 series.

The thread is called "IMPLOSION", it is place for those of us who believe in the implosion to discuss it. I don't like the implosion. None of us like it. This thread is here to vent, analyse and track various aspects of the implosion. If you don't like talk of implosion, don't open the implosion thread. If you want to talk implosion, or even present alternative, more positive viewpoints, that is fine. Just no need for insults.

SCC Verified Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Implosion status report-- Implosion length - The implosion is expected to take a total of 20-25 days. Implosion start date - September 1st 2016. Expected Implosion finish date - Ideally the implosion will finish on Fan Appreciation day, Sunday Sept. 26th against the NY Yankees. At this point we hope the Jays will be 6 games back of first, 4 our of wild card, and have no realistic hope. Imposion update - The implosion is on schedule, The Blue Jays have followed a series loss to the Rays, and a series sweep to the Yankees with a series loss to the Red Sox. Imploder of the day - Aaron Sanchez -- Even a mediocre 5 inning start may have led to victory, but Sanchez completely imploded 5 walks, 6 earned runs, 3 2/3 innings False "moment of hope" Week of Sep 5th - Tulo Grand slam The week in Implosion September 12th - Expect series wins by Rays and Angels False "moment of hope" week of 12th - expect a moment of false hope to occur if the Jays win the second game of the Rays series... hope will be crushed as the Rays win the Wednesday matinee, a turn around special so to say, give a little false hope, but crush it with a day game 16 hours later. Sounds about right, not going to lie. If we do manage to win the Rays series it will probably be a complete nail bitter. Look at the bright side, we get to play upset in late September when the Yankees - O's - Red Sox are all battling for 1st.

At this point in time classifying the current situation as anything more than a slump is completely premature.
SCC Verified Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 At this point in time classifying the current situation as anything more than a slump is completely premature. Our winning the division odds went from 60% to 20% in almost a week.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 As I said, many of us predicted team would be in shambles after the 2013 season. Instead, they've followed it up with 3 straight winning seasons, great attendance/ratings which will allow the team to continue to afford a top 10 payroll. Franchise is in much, much better shape than it was 6/7 years ago. I look forward to an exciting end to this year. So one s*** year (2013), one middling year (2014), two great months and a playoff appearance (2015), and one good season that looks like it may lead to a WC game at best with the way the team is currently playing (2016). Hey, then we get to start the whole f***ing process all over again when the team loses two of their best players next season and get to watch Tulo and Martin decline even further while making $40M combined into their mid-30's! And that farm system that's so easy to fix has exactly one prospect above AA that looks like he can contribute in 2017, and that player had a .083 ISO in AAA this season. Dude, I know you're an AA apologist and all, but come on. Unless you're on your f***ing deathbed, how can you possibly justify a year and a half of competitive ball and then what might be either a massive retool (if they make the playoffs) or possibly a quasi-rebuild (if they collapse the rest of the way)? AA was supposed to turn this team into a consistent, long-term, sustainable winner, remember? All the s*** we heard when he tried to justify trading Halladay for magic beans? Shapiro and Atkins can fix this org. I have faith in them. But the attendance spike will cease to exist if the team falters again, and when you build for one year, that's all you're going to get most of the time.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I hate when something that I'm suppose to find enjoyable is so not enjoyable. This team is killing my leisure time...and my soul.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Our winning the division odds went from 60% to 20% in almost a week. An implosion implies that number has reached zero, it's still infinitely higher.

People actually care about this team again That is way more important. That is going to translate into long term success
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 An implosion implies that number has reached zero, it's still infinitely higher. by that definition there is now an 80 % chance a division title implosion will occurr and a 50% chance a complete (no wild card) implosion will occur. the implosion view may soon be the more logical view. It's time the implosion people get respect. If the playoff odds get well below 50, which could occur with another few days of this, the positive view will be the crazy one.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 If they had made the playoffs any other time in the last 15 years people would of cared again. A couple of off years and the people won't care. The nightmare scenario is that the new regime is blamed for a down cycle caused by AA and end up with a short leash... Hopefully Shapiro gets a decade. Years 2-5 could be pathetic. And he will be viewed (unfairly) as having caused the mess, when in reity he just got a late start in fixing it.

Two games back, 20 games remaining. Anyone speaking in certainty about not making playoffs right now is getting way ahead of themselves.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Ok Mike Wilner. Never paid the guy the slightest attention so I have no clue what the f*** you're referring to.

FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 People actually care about this team again That is way more important. That is going to translate into long term success Toronto will go back to not caring about this team after we miss the playoffs and then turn right back into the same team we were in 2013 and 2014.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Still likely to make the postseason regardless of their recent slide--they won't keep losig with such a light sked after this, and they have 73.6% odds of making the playoffs (Baltimore and Detroit are in the mix for the 2nd wild card.) Yanks, Mariners and Astros are basically longshots, and the ROyals are done.. But this slide vs. AL East teams hurts.. just can't explain how it's happening.

Sick of your trolling too.. There's too much talent on this roster to be losing so much.. and another thing, most of the losses recently have been more bad luck and Donaldson's slump. Things will turn.. hopefully this week.

Yes but now it is proven that the Jays can make a lot of $$ for Rogers. Rogers has a real incentive to do well for the Jays unlike before AA when Jays were just content Going forward Rogers media will want to sustain the attendance and television numbers. To do this they will spend $$. A model of success has been created. That is the important part
