Best pitcher in baseball getting worked over pretty good.

According to Fangraphs, he had 1.85 FIP today, seemed unlocky, Fangraphs agrees.

Stroman missed his spot a couple times but I dont think he was that bad, got very unlucky as it seemed every groundball got through

How come Doc never got unlucky with all the ground balls getting through?

I hate the unlucky argument because it doesn't account for how hard the ground ball was hit. Stroman was hit hard today, Not all ground balls are the same. However metrics such as fangraphs, discount this element and assume that every ball that is hit on the ground is just like every other ball.

What does Halladay have to do with this argument?

According to metrics from sites like frangraphs Stroman and Halladay are virtually the same pitchers.

Stroman Career FIP 3.35 Halladay Career Fip 3.39

Stroman Career xfip 3.26 Halladay Career xFip 3.23

However when considering ERA

Stroman 3.90

Halladay 3.38

almost half a run higher,

Clearly from performance evidence we know they aren't. Metrics assume that all ground balls are created equal, where Halladay was able to get weak contact ground balls, those coming from Stromans pitches are bullets. Lots of people are saying that Stroman is unlucky, he isn't. He just gets hit very hard.

No, there's metrics for hard and soft hit balls, too.

Is a Fangraphs article where they absolutely slaughter sample size in order to create a stupid narrative the new jinx? Carrera was supposed to be a different player, so was Ryan Goins, and lord knows who else. Now Stroman has a poor start after this article was made....you know where the blame should go.

SSS rhetoric from Fangraphs.com?

Did he actually look alright? Just checking the box score, it looks like a terrible start. He had like 7 hits 5 runs and 2 Ks by the 3rd.

He got groundball singled to death, and even one groundball double. He wasn't top notch in terms of swings and misses, but overall it was a good start where it matters. Some batted ball luck and his line would look a lot better.

He seemed unlucky with the results but he also had a hard time putting hitters away, lots of AB's where the hitters were fouling off 7+ pitches.
