Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Bullying can happen at any age, man. Not sure what age has to do with anything. Little girls cry differently than big girls. Guess which one you are?

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Is it known when Arod actually started juicing? He put up a 9 win season in 1996 with Seattle with 36 HR's and he was what? 20? I kinda doubt he started that early. I think i remember something about him saying he did it when he signed the contract with Texas because of the pressure. But his numbers in 2000 and 2001 are pretty similar.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I like talking Jays. But don't like the abuse and bullying of a few members/mods. You're going to get abused here like Spanky abuses his liver.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 A-Rod is a Legend. Steroids dont give you Baseball skills. They help with recovery so you work out and build muscle at an accelerated rate. The process of building muscle is breaking them down and building them up stronger. Its basically a short cut. You can't just take steroids and sit on your couch and eat Doritos. Hard work is required. It's similar to taking protein shakes. If you take those everyday without getting your heart rate up and working hard its going to make you fat. You're changing your body mass. I try to explain this to my little brother. He takes protein shakes way to much now hes got titties and a chubby waistline. Every generation found a way to "cheat" or what I like to call a competitive advantage to get better. I think its ******** to vilify the Steroid era. When we use to have pitchers who doctored Baseball's. There is no substance in the world that can make you good at Baseball. Its skillset you learn and develop. The only thing steroids can do is make you stronger and recover faster. It's cheating but lets stop pretending these guys aren't elite talent.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Bullying can happen at any age, man. Not sure what age has to do with anything. True, but to me it's only bullying if the subject doesn't have the means to defend themself. You have every opportunity to give it right back around here.

Player A & Player B are of the same age, physique & equal skillset. As prospects they are both considered the best future players at their position. - Player A doesn't take steroids, he goes through a major slump in July/Aug as his body struggles to keep up with the grueling 6 month schedule. Still, he smashes 25HR and puts up a 125 wRC+, a great overall hitter. - Player B takes steroids, he rarely has the slump like others. His body is not tiring out, it's still strong as it was in May/June. He plugs his way through the season with a 170 wRC+, earns MVP votes, silver slugger & Hank Aaron award. I really don't know if it can have that large of an effect, but Player B ends up being a legend and signs record breaking contract. Player A probably is super excited to get All-Star votes. Player A drank lots of protein shakes.

Where is his huge spike in production? Quite possibly, it's because of guys like A-Rod that kids in High School are doing it today. We know he admitted doing it with the Rangers in 2001 when he was 25, what makes you believe he wasn't doing it before that? This is all during the height of the roid era before testing began. He wasn't going to come out and just say I've been doing it my entire pro career.

I dislike him more for his attitude then juicing. Do you really think he was doing it from high school? Wouldn't it of had to begin before that? The guy went 1st overall and debuted the same season as an 18 year old.

Second, not everyone wants to or has the personality to be a bully back. Not really. Bullying is when you pick on someone who is too weak to defend themselves. You're being bullied because of the way you respond to it. If you would just nut up and fire back it would be an argument. No one is going to feel sorry for a full grown man claiming he's been bullied in an internet forum. If you don't think you can handle yourself, don't post.

Player A drank lots of protein shakes. You're looking at a best case scenario situation. Steroids is not a slam dunk guarentee to keep you healthy. You're also not suppose to take anything like that for long periods of time. Even on protein shakes it will tell you don't exceed usage past 8 weeks. If we are talking about the good products and not the crap with a bunch of fillers. It's not good for your body. Science proves it ages your muscles. Your body adjusts to things as well. It wouldn't have the same effect. Bottom line no doubt steroids is beneficial. But Alex Rodriguez is not Alex Rodriguez because of steroids.

You really think Piazza was clean? Big Hurt? Ripken? If they played at any time prior to our current era, it's safe to assume that they were on something. Why wouldn't they be, these are the most competitive athletes in the world. Instead, we vilify the best and let everyone else slide. It sickens me. Same thing with Lance Armstrong, doping is rampant in cycling but he was the best so now he's the ultimate *******. Alex Rodriguez was probably the greatest shortstop of all time. I f***ing hate the way he's going out.

I f***ing hate the way he's going out. Exactly this. Everybody was doing steroids in the 90s and early 2000s, and it wasn't really against the rules. MLB was aware everyone was on steroids, and they needed it for the ratings and popularity. It's unfair to now bar those guys from the HOF when they carried the ratings for the sport for years.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Also, everyone gives David Ortiz a pass even though he is a known steroid user.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Also, everyone gives David Ortiz a pass even though he is a known steroid user. This is what annoys me the most. If Ortiz gets into the HOF before first of all Edgar Martinez. And second of all before all the other "cheaters". Baseball is completely f***ed and the HOF is not worth anyone's time. I wouldn't even pay attention to it.

Governator Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I'm not saying Rodriguez isn't an elite athlete and shouldn't be in the HOF... I'm really not even making an argument lol. I'm mostly just saying you can't compare the best players from the steroid era to others. There is no way to know how good they really were when not on roids unless you actually believe A-Rod stopped PEDs the day he got on a plane to NY.
Melvin Verified Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Also, everyone gives David Ortiz a pass even though he is a known steroid user. Because he's a big, dumb, jolly giant and people are massive hypocrites.
