Three lost balls by Buffalo's outfield led to a seven-run third inning, allowing the Pawtucket Red Sox to roll on to an 8-2 victory over the Bisons. With a twilight backdrop above the walls of the ball park, the bottom of the third inning started somewhat normally with a groundout, a single and walk. That's when Marco Hernandez hit a high fly ball to left field. Domonic Brown ran to where he thought the ball may be landing, but then threw out his hands as he could not locate the ball which landed on the warning track behind him. Hernandez then scampered around the bags, easily beating the eventual throw home. The next batter, Chris Marrero, ripped a liner to right which handcuffed Junior Lake as he tried to pick up the sphere coming towards him. Lake then lunged at the ball as it skipped by him, leading to a triple for the PawSox cleanup man, who touched home plate on a sac fly a moment later. Another walk and a single kept the inning alive, giving Henry Ramos the chance to hit a fly ball at Lake once more. Like Brown, Lake stared at the sky as the ball sailed past him for a two-run double. Mike Miller tacked on another run to make it 7-1 with a two-bagger of his own before Rusney Castillo grounded out to end the frame. Pawtucket starter Roenis Elias gave up a run in the first but found his groove as he retired 15 in a row from the second inning to the seventh. The left-handed Cuban fanned eight Bisons to lower his ERA to 3.72. Chris Leroux could only look on in frustration in the extend third, then lasted one more inning with an unfortunate seven runs and eight hits charged against him. Buffalo took the early lead in the first as Dalton Pompey walked and was driven in by a Matt Dominguez double to deep center field. The Herd added another in the eighth on a David Adams double and a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Ryan Goins. BISONS NOTES: Hernandez's inside-the-park home run was the first against the Herd since May 30, 2008 when Larry Broadway of the Columbus Clippers hit one off of Jeff Harris…In his 13th appearance with the Herd this season, Aaron Loup gave up his first run of the year on a triple and a single in the seventh inning…Jesus Montero went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, his team-leading 39th multi-hit game of the year. http://i.imgur.com/sxXeX9Y.png http://i.imgur.com/DHwUXhW.png http://i.imgur.com/2rAqXj9.png http://i.giphy.com/3o6ZsSC3DzpQKCE5xe.gif Rowdy Tellez Dinger Manchester, NH - Taylor Cole allowed one run over seven innings and Rowdy Tellez homered to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a fourth straight win 5-2 over Erie on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Cole (3-4) allowed five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three in earning the win. The Fisher Cats (51-60) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Richard Urena, who recorded his third consecutive multi-hit game since joining the team, tripled and scored on a Dwight Smith Jr. groundout for a 1-0 lead. Erie (45-67) tied the game in the top of the fourth when former Fisher Cats outfielder Anthony Gose homered off Cole. New Hampshire moved back in front, sending eight men to the plate in a three-run fourth inning. Smith , Rowdy Tellez and Ryan Lavarnway put together consecutive singles for the first run. Derrick Loveless singled Tellez in and Lavarnway scored on a sacrifice fly by Shane Opitz. Tellez, who went 3-for-4, added his 14th homer in the fifth inning against Erie starter and loser Tyler Alexander, who was making is Double-A debut. The SeaWolves plated a run off reliever Murphy Smith in the ninth after the Fisher Cats made consecutive errors to allow Gose, who had singled, to score. Borucki has put together a very good season in Lansing after being a disaster in Dunedin to start the year. 3) Richard Urena: Urena went 2/4 with a triple, continuing to prove that he can hit in the upper levels of the minors. Kings Platinum Arencibia 1) Chris Leroux: Leroux got torched for 8 hits and 7 earned runs in 4 innings.

flafson Verified Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 No. Maybe next September though. Why not? To me he looks ready to have a taste.

It's not a stretch if Urena gets called up this September as he already has been invited to the big club's ST camp.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 It's not a stretch if Urena gets called up this September as he already been invited to the big club's ST camp. We've got no good reason to waste a 40 man roster spot on Urena in 2016 and in the offseason when we don't have to. It's not happening.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 You only do it if you think he has a chance of being needed before the Super 2 date next year.

It's not happening. Cecciliani, Matt Dominguez, Colabello, Andy Burns, Venditte, Tepera, and Dragmire are all on the fringes of the 40 man imo. I don't think they're going to DFA one of them to give Urena a spot on the bench though. Not this season.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 You only do it if you think he has a chance of being needed before the Super 2 date next year. even that's a stretch. He's still growing. He put on 10 pounds this year and grew 2 inches last off-season. Let him mature naturally, see if he can even stick at SS as he grows and September 2017 we likely see him. If anything this year he'll go back to Dunedin if they can get into the playoffs this year.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 King, I know this is a Jays update, but do think you could add a Mejia Watch in future daily updates? He's broke the post-realignment (1963) hitting streak record already and sits at 47 games over two leagues.
admin Site Manager Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I still get a kick out of the fact we have Montero, Brown and Kotchman in our farm system. Years ago that would have been pretty amazing. All three were top six prospects in all of baseball at one time.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Urena call up lmaooo. Let him prove he's good at hitting better pitching

I'm more concerned about Rule V protection in the offseason.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I get that those aren't sexy names. I'm more concerned about Rule V protection in the offseason. who is on that list? I know Harold Ramirez, but straight from Jays drafted players I see DJ Davis (no need), Matt Smoral (ha!), Mitch Nay (no one is going near him), Borucki (nope), Alford...I suppose you almost have to but they may apply for an extension based on his Football time, they won last time they applied with Hech so maybe. Any internationals? I think they traded all the 2011 signees but Osuna.

King Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 I'd probably protect Alford, Urena, Rios and Dermody. If Perdomo goes unprotected I think he gets taken. Hard throwing LHP with strikeout ability would have a place in someones bullpen for a year
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Alex isn't the GM anymore. Urena isn't being called up and SRF won't be pitching out of the pen.

In the futures game he was topping out at about 91 with an effortful delivery. I wouldn't be too worried about a team taking a low-A pitcher with control problems. Maybe someone like Atlanta would pick him but I don't think he's a good enough prospect to be that worried about losing. Should've traded him at the deadline for someone and skipped on the Scott Feldman trade.

That's always been what he is, a hard throwing lefty with swing and miss stuff but command problems. He could be very good out of the bullpen, if the Jays made that conversion next season or the season after.

I've watched a couple Perdomo scouting videos, won't pretend to be any sort of pitch mechanics expert but I don't see a high effort delivery. Seems fluid enough to me, the command issues are evident though Either way I agree with King, a lefty with his tools would probably get snatched up for someone to try in the pen if we leave him unprotected.
