Ryan Goins home run in the top of the 8th, off Bryce Harpers brother

In the final game of a four-game series at NBT Bank Stadium, the Bisons lost to the Syracuse Chiefs on Thursday. In what was the last meeting of the year between the two clubs, Buffalo hit a season-high four home runs, but fell thanks to a pair of three run innings by the Chiefs' lineup.

For the second straight night, and the sixth time this season, Matt Skole connected for a home run against the Herd. His first inning shot was of the three-run variety, and gave the Chiefs a 3-0 lead against Bisons' starter Scott Diamond.

In the second inning with Jhonatan Solano on first, Steve Lombardozzi dropped a single into right field. Solano slid into third, when the incoming ball from right field got away from Matt Dominguez, allowing Syracuse to take a 4-0 lead, as Solano scored. Michael Taylor doubled in the third inning, and came across to score on a sac-fly by Jason Martinson.

The Herd's first homer came in the fourth against Chief's start A.J. Cole, when Domonic Brown put the Bisons on the board. The Buffalo right fielder knocked a two-run home run over the right-centerfield wall, just out of the reach of a leaping Michael Taylor. May 19 was the last long ball for the Bisons' outfielder, who now has seven on the season.

A 3-1 fastball was deposited over the leftfield wall by Matt Dominguez to lead off the sixth inning. Dominguez's homer cut the Chief's lead to 5-3, and was his team-leading 14th of the year. Casey Kotchman hit a wall-scraping homer in the seventh, and Ryan Goins followed that up in the eighth for a homer of his own, scoring the game's final run.

Scott Diamond retired 10 in a row following Taylor's double in the third. That was before Syracuse increased their lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth, when Chris Bostick plated Martinson with a RBI single, and Caleb Ramsey doubled in two. Diamond left after 6.0 innings, giving up seven hits and eight runs, with six of them earned. His record drops to 7-11. Diamond gave way to Chad Girodo in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Michael Taylor drilled a triple into centerfield, past a slipping Junior Lake, and scored on a hit by Martinson. Girodo escaped a bases-loaded jam later in the frame.

A.J. Cole ended his night with 7.0 innings and four earned runs, winning his eighth game for Syracuse. Bryan Harper relieved Cole for the eighth inning, and quickly allowed the fourth Bison blast, a solo-shot to Ryan Goins. Harper took a line drive by Jesus Montero off his shoulder in the inning, but stayed in the game. Matt Grace pitched a scoreless inning in the ninth to cap off the Chiefs' win.

Ryan Goins and Matt Dominguez both went 2-4 on Thursday, while Steve Lombardozzi, Michael Taylor and Jason Martinson each had multi-hit games for Syracuse.

The Herd made two errors on the night, but shortstop Ryan Goins made a pair of highlight reel plays in the ballgame. In the fourth, Goins dove to his left to make a grab in the air on a potential base-knock by Chris Bostick. Goins then took away a hit from Jhonatan Solano in the sixth, spinning and throwing Solano out at first on a groundball up the middle, preventing a run from scoring.

The Herd heads to Pawtucket on Friday to battle the Red Sox. Chris Leroux looks to win his first game since July 7, and he will be opposed by Roenis Elias. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at McCoy Stadium.

BISONS NOTES:

Fresh off breaking the Herd's modern era record for games pitched, Bobby Korecky has been placed on the disabled list. Ryan Goins was optioned to Buffalo after being activated from the Blue Jays 15-day disabled list. Fellow reliever Ben Rowen was also claimed off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday… Dalton Pompey received a much-needed day off, after playing in 24-straight contests… Five of Ryan Goins last seven games have been multi-hit contests… The Bisons fall a game below .500, dropping to 56-57.

Reese McGuire 2/4 with a double and a single

Manchester - Derrick Loveless drilled a three-run homer to help lead the Fisher Cats to a three-game sweep of Akron with a 7-5 win on Thursday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Loveless ripped the first pitch he saw in the third inning for his seventh homer to stake the Fisher Cats to a 6-0 lead. Wilmer Font (1-0) earned his first win for New Hampshire (50-60), allowing three runs in five innings. He walked one and struck out two.

The Fisher Cats took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning against losing pitcher Michael Peoples (8-5). Reese McGuire doubled, moved to third on a single by Jason Leblebijian, scoring on a bunt by Roemon Fields. After Christian Lopes reached on a fielders choice, shortstop Richard Urena singled home two runs.

Ryan Lavarnway walked and McGuire singled ahead of the Loveless home run in the third inning. After Akron scored in the top of the fourth, New Hampshire made it 7-1 in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single by Leblebijian.

The RubberDucks (55-57) scored the game's final four runs on two-run homers by Greg Allen in the fifth and Luigi Rodriguez in the ninth. The Rodriguez' home run spoiled the Double-A debut of reliever Colton Turner, who did strike out three in his one inning. Chris Smith finished up with a strikeout of Claudio Bautista for his ninth save for the Fisher Cats. Brady Dragmire also worked 2.2 scoreless frames in relief with two strikeouts.

Erie makes its first appearance at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Friday at 7:05 p.m. to play the Fisher Cats. Hyundai presents an Atlas Fireworks Show after the game. For information and tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com. RHP Taylor Cole (2-4, 4.23) starts for the Fisher Cats and RHP Tyler Alexander is set to make his debut with the SeaWolves.

Grubers Guy Tim Mayza pitched in his 1st game back at Dunedin after being demoted from New Hampshire

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Zach Green sent the Threshers home a walk-off winner, as Clearwater overcame a late Blue Jays surge to move back into a tie with Dunedin atop the FSL North, winning 7-6 in the series finale on Thursday night.

Dunedin (25-15) rallied to tie the game with two runs in the top of the ninth, but Carlos Tocci led off the home half by drawing a walk to put the winning run on base.

Kyle Martin converted on his first sacrifice bunt of the season, advancing Tocci to second. An out later, Green stepped to the plate with a chance to end it.

Down in the count 1-2, Green struck a grounder back up the middle to send Tocci racing around third and across the plate with the game-winning run, giving Clearwater its fifth walk-off victory of the season.

The Threshers (25-15) are now back even with the Blue Jays in first place in the FSL North. After Daytona's loss at Brevard County, the Tortugas are one game back in the division.

Zach Coppola finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in his High-A debut, and Martin launched his 14th home run of the season on Thursday. Martin's bomb was an opposite-field, two-run homer that put the Threshers up 2-0 in the third.

Dunedin bounded back with a pair of two-run homers of its own in the fourth, as Ryan McBroom and Dickie Joe Thon each went yard. Clearwater answered in the bottom of the inning, when an error on pitcher Chris Rowley brought a run home, and Tocci followed with a single to tie it.

Clearwater took the lead in the fifth. With two on and two out, Malquin Canelo lined a single toward right-center to score Martin and put the Threshers up 5-4. Tocci's sac fly an inning later made it a two-run cushion.

Matt Hockenberry hurled a scoreless eighth, before Anthony Alford opened the ninth with a double. Jorge Flores' triple to center cut the Threshers lead to one and put the tying run on third with nobody out.

Hockenberry (3-1) induced a big strikeout of Gunnar Heidt, but McBroom sent a deep fly ball to center for a sacrifice to bring in Flores and tie the game at six.

Green's winner in the home half was his first walk-off hit this season, and his 60th RBI.

The Threshers will open a three-game set with the Lakeland Flying Tigers beginning on Friday at 6:15 p.m. at Bright House Field, as Shane Watson (3-4) takes the hill against Tyler Alexander (6-7). The game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com and the TuneIn app beginning at 6 p.m.

LANSING, Mich. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (26-13, 63-45) extended their winning streak to seven games, topping the Lansing Lugnuts (19-21, 55-55), 8-2, on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The Lugs have lost 16 of their last 21 games following a 14-5 start to the second half.

Hot Rods first baseman Kewby Meyer went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and right fielder Manny Sanchez was 3-for-3 with a walk to lead the visitors, who scored three runs in the second inning, two in the fifth, one in the eighth and put the game away with two runs in the ninth.

19-year-old Bowling Green starter Genesis Cabrera (Win, 8-4) tossed five innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts. Roel Ramirez (Save, 2) handled the final four innings, limiting the Lugnuts to a pair of ninth-inning hits.

Lansing starter Angel Perdomo (Loss, 3-6) gave up four runs on five hits and four walks, striking out four batters. Kirby Snead handled the next 2 2/3 innings, a new professional high, before Jackson Lowery recorded the final two outs in the eighth and Daniel Young pitched the ninth.

The Lugnuts' offense was supplied in the fifth inning. Juan Tejada led off with a triple and scored on an Andrew Guillotte RBI single. Guillotte moved to third on a John La Prise double, putting him in position to score on a Juan Kelly sacrifice fly.

Tejada, La Prise, Juan Kelly and Ryan Hissey each went 2-for-4 in the loss for Lansing.

The series finale between the Lugnuts and Hot Rods is slated for 7:05 p.m. Friday, featuring postgame LAFCU Fireworks. Ryan Goins is a star at AAA. Too bad he looked so bad in the Monday game in the big leagues.

Unless Ryan Goins re-learns to hit away pitches to the opposite field like he was doing last year, then AAA will be his perennial home. I think Ryan Goins should watch game tapes of Devon Travis, which is like a text book example of how to hit.

That's a pretty mediocre first star.

Why? A homerun and 2 walks is a great day.

Just goes to show you the big jump between AAA and the MLB, Goins is doing great in Buffalo but like we all say here, until he hits the other way he can't be up with the Jays.

Ryan Goins is no AAA star, this is still just SSS noise. He's never been able to hit at or above league average in AAA for a prolonged period of time. He's simply just not a good hitter.

?? Whut?? It is only 50 at bats. Goins is a .270 .330 .360ish guy career at aaa.

.220 .260 .300 mlb

I think he is a better hitter then his major line shows so far.

There is a translation factor between Buffalo and Toronto... it is known. Given 10000 at bats in Buffalo and Toronto every player will obey the translation factor. I am convinced of this.

If Ryan is a true .270 .330 .360 hitter in Buffalo, he will hit .245 .310 .330 (or something like that) in 10000 at bats in Toronto

You are being fooled by small sample size.

I am convinced that Randy Ruiz would obey the law of transation between Buffalo and Toronto.. I believe his big numbers were in Vegas?? No??

So

Randy Ruiz buffalo (10000 at bats) - .300 .350 .500

Ruandy Ruiz toronto (10000 at bats) - .270 .330 .450

I have studied the issue in great detail and I now demand Ryan Goins be called up for August.

Ryan Goins is a career .287 .370 .372 hitter in the month of August. It just goes to show you the differences between August and June (Goins is only a .186 hitter in June).

This makes a lot of sense to me.

1. The pitchers are getting a bit tired in the dog days so Ryan can hit them.

2. The hitting coaches give Ryan a lot of advice.. like "hit to the opposite field" but it takes a while to bring this advice to the games, by August he is able to apply all the advice he is given to games.

This is not random. August is obviously very different for Ryan then June. Call Ryan up now as he obviously a good August hitter (and he is even showing it in Buffalo).

Isn't all this snark about Ryan Goins going just a bit overboard? This is a minor league thread.

If some sarcastic posters want to give confidence levels on their future predictions then that is acceptable, statistically speaking. Otherwise, some posters who think they are sabermetrically smart, probably just don't understand the difference between past "absolute" statistics and future statistical predictions.

You can usually find a better performance if you have several games worth to choose from.

There was a few. Maybe Nick Sinay and Dickie Joe Thon, Josh Palacios.

I'm not necessarily criticising your selection. Just noticing that no one really had a standout game.
