Santana isn't that bad. He's kind of old but his contract situation is kind of alright. Seems to be good for 2.5+ WAR per season. If he gets busted for roids again though he's gone for a year.

 

Assuming we didn't have to give up much I'd take him.

You should be worried because the Twins asking price on Santana has been through the roof. They aren't moving him for anything less than they were asking for, which was a lot.

I don't understand the hate on the idea of getting Santana. It's not as exciting as David Price but he's a durable pitcher who gets decent results. Hopefully we just absorb his salary.

I'm sure they will get something back if it's proven that there was something not disclosed. I was just making a comment on the cheapness of the Marlins.

Well, here's the thing. This isn't the first time we've had strong talks with a pitcher. The same heavy rumors we've had for at least Rich Hill and Hellickson. This will probably be exhausted and Atkins will move on. Not sure how much time he has left.

His xFIP isn't even that bad. Really comes down to COA for me. If he's cheap to get then I'm in; if MIN wants some other worldy package they can GTFO.

I think alot of folks have it in their heads that a major win-now move is needed, and for some reason think that the Santana trade would be that move and are reacting accordingly .... when it's obviously not much of a needle mover for 2016, but makes sense for the next 3.
