TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Can't see this guy helping us at all down the stretch, and you'd have to be crazy to trust him in any sort of high leverage situation... May as well just cut our losses cause I doubt we'll be able to get anything in return.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Yes. Exactly what I was thinking as he gave up the homerun. The guy sucks. I can't remember the last outing where he didn't give up a double/triple/homer

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 I don't see it happening, because I think all of the following are true: - Their financial investment in him is effectively identical whether they keep him or cut him. - The is a very low probability that he's worse than the likely replacement-level arm that replaces him, in terms of ROS performance. - If he's being replaced by a similar arm, AND that role is a low-leverage role, there is effectively no change to the team's performance. - There is a chance he finds 'it' again. This is, after all, a 33-inning slump that follows 333 innings of excellent performance. A Storen that returns to form actually could make a difference in the standings if he earns high-leverage innings.

It's not crazy to think he'll come around, and in the mean time just use him in low leverage spots.

With this pen, we need he and Cecil to give us some quality innings.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Yeah like BTS said, the arm you likely replace him with from Buffalo isn't going to much of an upgrade, if any at all. It's unfortunate that Storen hasn't panned out here because the Jays could really use him right now. Not sure what the exact stats are, though it seems like when Storen hasn't pitched in the closers role (even when with the Nats), he was pretty awful. Even when they went out and got Papelbon last season and pushed Storen down to the 8th inning, he just imploded.

Swstr still pretty good, gb% pretty good, walk rate pretty good, Steamer has him as a 3.5 ish FIP guy ROS. Really, I'd just stay the course with him.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 You could make the case hes been a gas can for a full calendar year. He was s*** the second half of last year. Unless you're replacing his roster spot with an impact reliever no it doesn't make a difference. He's already not being used in important spots. Hes f***ing trash though. Nobody can argue the fact he doesn't suck all the suck with a straight face. Plus all the rumours of him not wanting to be here don't help.

It also points that every day he gets a little older and will trend towards providing more suck.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 He's getting hit harder than ever and his velocity is down. This is not all bad luck.

Yeah, wasn't there reports 2 months ago that the Jays wanted to trade him? The guy seems miserable and it's pretty clear for whatever reason that it's just not gonna work out for him here. May as well take a chance with someone else at this point. Heck, a guy like Wade Leblanc would have been a better option. I get that it's hard to cut bait because at the start of the season the prospect of having Storen in the back end of the pen sounded really awesome and it's hard to just up and let go, but I highly doubt theres gonna be any bounce-back here.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 I figured it was self-explanatory Then what was the point of the thread in the first place? It's not so cut and dry. You can't just say that a guy needs to be DFA'd without analyzing the good and the bad.
BigBulgeBlueBird Verified Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Someone should make a thread saying the jays should acquire Chris Sale. See if they listen to the one.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Great take BTS. You really had a feel for the situation. I'm just curious why arms like Dermody, Rowen, and Barnes get passed over for Tepera?

Governator Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Either we are really hard up on cash for purchasing a contract or front office is f***ing stupid to think Tepera is any kind of a replacement for Storen. We have better options who can't do worse than Tepera.

We have better options who can't do worse than Tepera. They do have better options but managing a 40 man roster is hard. This is why Ross Atkins is probably paid a pretty penny.
