Summarizing this thread...

Solid improvements suggested with valid arguments that would improve and grow forum.

The response is to prove the OP correct with close minded, internet bravdo by the old guard here that is lazy, time consumed and unable or unwilling to make extra clicks to keep order.

Great stuff guys. Thanks for your predictable replies to this post in advance.

It's not even that accurate. The latest post in Around Baseball is about Dylan Bundy starting on Sunday. Not thread worthy. The latest discussion in the General blue jays discussion thread is about the long allstar break. Once again not thread worthy. Those threads are made for people to post non thread worthy stuff freely without an issue.

And when something worth discussion happens its usually made into a thread. Look at the front page. Red Sox acquire Pomeranz. Ortiz going to be fined for tampering. Fangraphs trade value. Extend Dickey.

If people want to make threads on which Blue Jay eats mayo with their pasta, be my guest. I don't think its really worth complaining about.

The mods should remove all the "General" threads for week and see what happens. Around Baseball, Prospects thread, General discussion etc. all gone.

So disagreeing with the OP from a different perspective is invalid?

I had a long hiatus posting on the board, and now that I have been reading again I have a few suggestions I'd like to post:

-The main posters are the same. Let's be honest but there are many fans out there who, if they were attracted to the board, would be valuable contributors and give different views that I think a lot of us would appreciate. From what I remember a lot of people are very rude to people who have different perspectives and this is probably driving away activity on the forum.

-The threads are too crowded. I think I speak for a lot of people on this- when news comes out it too often gets lumped in around baseball, prospects or some related thread. I think encouraging more threads would make it better for people who come here for the latest news stories. I do not see a problem with creating smaller threads as long as they are news or opinion based and obviously not blatant troll threads.

-When I left, threads were getting locked because of a few posters ruining the fun for everyone. Not locking threads so that people can talk about a trending topic would go a long way with improving board activity. Most people enjoy talking about controversial topics in general, so a few idiots shouldn't ruin an interesting discussion.

Overall I think the board is doing a poor job attracting new and potentially interesting members, and I wanted to share a few of the main reasons I think need to be considered.

I like your posts. Its too bad some posters go away feeling like this, but overall I love this board. It is what it is and for the internet its pretty civil. I don't expect it to change.

There are a lot of knowledgeable posters on here and its taught me a lot about valuing performance complementing the old stats we used to rely on.

Ive met a few guys from the board...and that's been interesting and fun.

It fills a void for talking baseball/Jays/other things that most of my baseball friends and new casual fans who I like personally, but make me insane to talk ball with.

Is the message board on the Blue Jays official site still going?

Of course it is where would we banish people to. Its like our guantanamo bay.

Thanks! I went away in part because it has been the same posters, posting the same (in my opinion) stuff all the time. That's not a knock on anyone who has a certain viewpoint, but it got really boring reading the same stuff over and over. What I meant by saying posters are rude wasn't meant to sound like being a bitch like one poster suggested, it was just that the board is very unaccepting of some opinions- some posters will suggest that it's because they are smarter but that is just their ignorant opinion and not factually true.

Anyways, not trying to create anything more than what this is. I'm a huge baseball fan and find the forum to be not as good as it could be.

Is Stro Show going to pitch well tonight?

r/torontobluejays sounds like what a lot of people want. This is more of a discussion board than a news board imo.

This is the cheers of message boards.... everyone knows everyone and it's very familiar for people to come in and just hang out. the fact that baseball gets discussed is just a plus at this point. for whatever reason people started coming to the board it's become a fun and slightly dysfunctional family.

HI NORM!!

PS. OUR OFF TOPIC SECTION IS ALMOST MORE ACTIVE THAN THE MAIN BOARD IS CURRENTLY AND WE ARE MID SEASON.

This board is candy land compared to most places on the internet. As long you don't ignore advanced stats and don't bring up pitcher wins, and batting average as arguing points nobody really attacks you. Most fights on this board stem from non baseball related issues and atleast one party is intoxicated.

^this. This board isn't for basics or casual fans - and that's what I like about it. I don't have to sift though posts about how we should trade Jose or EE for CC Sabathia (first trade suggestion by a caller on Blairs show today...last call I listened to).

I'm fairly new and never had a problem here. I love it the way it is.

I frequent a few forums like this and this is by far the most condescending board. Its not particularly close really. I can deal with it just fine because, hey, its the internet, but that doesnt change the facts. The world isnt sunshine and roses everywhere anyways. It is what it is.

The boards most active thread in the off season might have been the "most attractive bluejay". This is a very tolerant place, but if you come here as a know it all, who's not willing to learn and quote RBI's and batting average, like yeah...you will get blasted.

For the most part the mods do an excellent job. It's the best place to talk Jays baseball.

So it's the best out of what 4-5 places? I thought this board knew what a small sample size was. I find the Yankees message board to be a lot more tolerable and interesting when I read it. There's actually a variety of opinions and more interesting discussion even after considering that they have a larger fanbase. But maybe that's just me- if you guys like being a "Cheers" type of message board with a short list of common posters then good, embrace it for what it is. I just think there are a lot of people out there who would bring some good discussion to the board if some things were different.

There are also lots of re-Todd's out there that make it unbearable. Pick your poison

I'm from an even smaller Leafs board and it's a hard place to get into the swing of things and I love the place, and this place is similar, but, I haven't grasped the specific humour from people just yet and I probably never will, it's too much effort to getting to learn all the schtick of the place. I think j4l's post is a good example of this place. Anybody who comes here and doesn't like it must just be an idiot.

Have you seen the bluejays subreddit? That place is a circlejerk of "ROGERS SUCKS SHAPIRO SUCKS OMG KAWASAKI GUYS COLABELLO DIDNT KNOW HE TOOK STEROIDS GUYS IF WE DONT RE-SIGN BAUTISTA IM NOT WATCHING ANYMORE"

And if you make an intelligent post refuting those viewpoints, you get downvoted into oblivion and nobody ever reads your messages.

This board is far better. Yes, there are a lot of condescending posters/regulars, but if you are willing to learn, then you will. This forum is VERY pro-sabr, and if you don't know about advanced stats you will get called out.

We have 365 active members (members who have been online in the last 30 days) and usually 75 members online during games (and another 300 or so guests). I honestly don't see that as a small core.

Two separate points J4L19. He didn't get your inside joke (likely about the hottest player, which wasn't actually a joke)...then he made a statement that anyone who doesn't like this board is an idiot.

See how pissed I am that I lost my Mod of the Year, now I am translating for people

For sure, as I said I come from a place that's smaller and is much harder to get into heh. It could just bad luck or reading things the wrong way on my end. What's the deal with people posting Mods all the time though? Is it a running joke here?
