Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Fixed title. You guys are right nothing against Kluber. I thought Kluber, Sanchez, Fulmer and Quintana should have got consideration. Butt hurt Jays fan in me wanted Sanchez Rub some ointment on it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I'd probably take Kluber too. Advanced stats are probably better and he's a CY Young winner and a bon a fide star. That deserves deference IMO as I'd rather the All-Star game be played by actual stars and not half year wonders (not saying that Sanchez will be a half year wonder but if you take less proven players you run that risk). The real surprise is that Ned Yost of all people took a guy who is 8-8 over a guy who is 9-1.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 My issue is not Kluber its Brad Brach and Craig Kimbrel. Starters are more valuable to teams. To be honest though if Saunders isn't winning the final vote in a landslide it's probably Sanchez. I hope Sanchez has another shot to get in.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Relievers deserve representation in the all-star game, not that I support those choices entirely. Sure but not that many. Kimbrel didn't need to make it in especially since so many Red Sox position players did.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Also, Yost sees Kluber more in division and Kluber probably kills his team (unable to check if true or.not)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 (edited) Relievers deserve representation in the all-star game, not that I support those choices entirely. Same. I actually understand why you'd want lots of them as you're generally asking each to throw one inning or even just face 1-2 batters. RP are much more used to this obviously. If your objective is to win the game having a bunch of closer types makes sense. If you're trying to represent the league then this seems RP heavy In an interview yesterday Yost states how much he wants to win the game. To the point he almost acknowledged her stacked himself with late inning BP types for that reason. Plus he's obviously used to that in KC. Edited July 7, 2016 by G-Snarls

Top starting pitchers wouldn't necessarily be less effective in a one inning appearance than dedicated one inning guys though I'm not surprised that Yost would see it that way.
banned Verified Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Whoever made this decision is an idiot..Kluber is 8-8 with a 3.79 ERA..>Sanchez is 9-1 with a 2.94 ERA.....
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 The reasoning lies in FIP, K/9, and WAR.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 You'll get killed for sighting pitcher wins... but I think it should have been Sanchez.
banned Verified Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Corey Kluber is objectively better than Aaron Sanchez. Plus I don't want Sanchez throwing any extra innings in meaningless games, so I'm cool with this. Not really.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 The All Star game should be based on a bit more than the first half of the current season anyway. Sanchez and Kluber are basically tied in the ratio trio right now. ERA=Sanch; FIP=Klube; xFIP=tie. Kluber has way more star power. He's just as if not more deserving. Sanchez probably benefits more from the extra time off. and that crafty Yost knows that if he pitches in the ASG, he'll likely get game three of the first series after the ASG and miss KC the next series. Crafty Yost!

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 You'll get killed for sighting pitcher wins... You're walking a pretty thin line yourself.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 You're walking a pretty thin line yourself. He should probably be cited
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 The reasoning lies in FIP, K/9, and WAR. Toronto fans obviously voted hard for Estrada to be in, taking the other Jay's pitcher with an identical ERA (yes I said ERA, deal with it) to the one voted in would have been the right thing to do imo.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 He should have taken all CLE CHI and DET pitchers just to f*** them over LOL
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Whoever made this decision is an idiot..Kluber is 8-8 with a 3.79 ERA..>Sanchez is 9-1 with a 2.94 ERA..... I don't know about anyone else, but the last thing I want is to see Sanchez pitching in additional unnecessary innings this year. He's already on pace for well over 200 innings. Giving him an extended rest over the break would make a ton of sense imo, as in skipping one of his starts on either side of it rather than adding to it. On the plus side, in spite of the innings he's only averaging 100 pitches per start.

Can you even vote for pitchers? I could be wrong, but, from what I understand, you can only vote for the starting position players and the final vote selection. I agree with your premise though, it would have been the decent thing to do to replace him with Sanchez, given the numbers.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 You can't vote for starters. But Estrada and Sanchez should have been locks on the orginal roster. Yost decided to load up on relievers
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Really could give a flying f*** about the AS game and Jays etc. If Marco has to go on the DL this is the time, and the last thing I want is Sanchez throwing any meaningless innings. It's all about winning this season. I"ll vote for Saunders because he is Canadian and having a great year and it would be his first. But im much more interested to see how Hutch looks tonight now that Floyd is gone.#FlagsFlyForever
