King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 OF Nick Banks profile stood out to me amongst some of the best available, always get intrigued when I see a term like "best pure hitter" "Part of a stellar U.S. collegiate national team outfield with Louisville's Corey Ray and Florida's Buddy Reed last summer, Banks can't quite match their tools, but he did establish himself as the best pure hitter on the squad. He led Team USA in hitting (.386) and on-base percentage (.491) and projected as a mid-first-round pick. He hasn't been the same since having a cyst removed from his lower back last fall, however, with multiple scouts noting that he has looked stiff and his tools have regressed this spring. At his best, Banks employs a sleek left-handed swing and delivers line drives from gap to gap. He has above-average raw pop and started to become more aggressive and drive the ball more often in 2015. He hasn't looked as fluid or powerful during a disappointing regular season this year but did help his cause by winning the Southeastern Conference tournament MVP award in late May in front of a bevy of scouts. While Banks showed solid speed and arm strength with Team USA, both tools have elicited fringe-average grades in 2016. He profiled well as a right fielder in the past, but now scouts don't know what to make of him. A club that gives him the benefit of the doubt for past performance could take him in the first three rounds." Nats get both Banks and Luzardo.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Jackson has been bad this year and has had major BB issues in the SEC. 99 walks in 156 career innings. Not that it matters much. I'm sure most of what you really care about with a college reliever would be velocity, spin rate, whiff rate. You can teach a guy to throw more strikes.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Zach Jackson...didn't we draft a similar named lefty like that ages ago? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/jacksza01.shtml

Jackson is 21, he should be playing good baseball at that ages.

Frag Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I'm so indifferent about this year's draft, I don't even know what to comment regarding the Jays picks.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I want some Latino here Thanks for listen to me
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 http://i.imgur.com/t1bGKhP.png BB/9 is terrible and the reports aren't that great either on Jackson. Pure upside pick, I guess. He's like a taller Drew Storen. It's mostly about the breaking ball, I think (double plus?). But one of the Youtube videos has him up to 96 and there might be a sliver of projection left in his body too.
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Vancouver will be fun at least. Zeuch, Woodman, Jackson and Palacios will all likely head there if/when they sign.
gohogs14 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Jackson is the type of pitcher that will load up the bases and then strike out the side. His control really struggled last year, but he's always been clutch and his stuff is among the best of the college pitchers in the draft. He was expected to be flirting with the first round coming into the year but Arkansas as a whole had a disappointing year and he was no exception. Don't know how he'll translate but he's fun to watch at least
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 A's just got a good one in Shelby. I wonder if someone will draft his younger brother.

They said he would be "quick to the majors" but I can't really see it.
